There is no way you have a 2003 a4 with a 2.0FSI engine unless it was swapped in!!

If you received the wrong tensioner, return it and get the right one.

Are you saying the original one on your car is hydraulic? And replacement that came in is not a hydraulic one? If so, then it is most likely an updated spring tensioner. And if so, it is much more reliable.

I don't know your engine, but the US AMB engine code engines went through the same thing. They now sell a spring tensioner in place of the hydraulic one that came original on the car.

Trying to understand what your issue is? With a clearer explanation, people may be able to assist better.

I am conjecturing things in my head what your issue is, but are all assumptions. Assumption I have now is the hydraulic tensioner (one with extending rod) is not compatible with what you had me google.

Then this is what it looks like installed? Not sure where the hydraulic tensioner (with rod) would then go. But I do get how you use that hex to tighten belt, torque the tensioner down with that flat faced hex bolt, then use the hydraulic tensioner to keep things locked. Need more pics to try and understand more, along with trying to figure what you are talking about. Mind you I don't know your car at all, but will try to help if I can.

Im assuming your missing the hydralic piston for the tensioner correct??From what I understand you also need part number 06D109477A.Thats the hydralic piston that pushes up on the tensioner .
