    GT28RS Issue

So I have a friend who bought a lightly used Garrett GT28RS recently (elim version). There is pretty much no shaft play in and out or side to side but the main thing that stood out to me was that when you spin the wheels with your fingers it spins for like half a second or like 2-3 rotations and stops, which I found concerning since itís a ball-bearing turbo? Thoughts? What could the issue be, or is this normal? Thanks, Nick.

A place between here and there

Stop spinning a turbo CHRA that has no lubrication running through it. You mess up bearings this way. Even if a turbo has no in, out, or side to side play it can have damaged bearings. Spinning it dry won't assist any with it.

Garrett has a CHRA replacement program. Send them your old one and they send you a new one back, no matter the damage (afaik). Discounted price is like $500 for a replacement. You need to go through an authorized dealer for this, like Pag Parts.

Not saying the turbo is bad. But if it is, this may be the more cost efficient route for a replacement.
