The difference is, your pics live up to the car, whereas my pics struggle. And I guess if I'm playing by the rules I'm supposed to put those in the random pics thread. I'm about to do a little bit of stuff to the truck, so I'll post some bad pics of that after I get the work done.

There are no rules in CB. Anything goes.

I had a shitty chicken shawarma for lunch from the work cafeteria and believe it currently has gotten to the other end.

I'm trying time restricted feeding right now. Basically 15 hours of fasting and 9 hour feeding window. This is the time of day that I basically want to kill people, but simply don't have the energy, which I guess works out.

I had a grilled chicken club from Chick-fil-A. The have awesome fried/breaded chicken, but the grilled chicken is pretty gross. So weird.

Hopefully I won't turn this into a dissertation, but short story probably long is I've always been fairly health conscious, but at 44 have found myself having a lot of issues that i feel like a healthy person my age shouldn't have. Bad joints, inflammation, poor sleep, etc. Several months ago I was listening to an old episode of Joe Rogan's podcast with Rhonda Patrick talking about a lot of new research showing a lot of evidence of time restricted feeding (aka intermittent fasting, though I guess that term is falling out of favor) and occasional prolonged fasting (3 - 5 days) having pretty profound effects on inflammation markers, autoimmune issues, etc. I actually have a rheumatologist that has been wanting to start me on some meds that I simply don't want to take, so I dove headfirst into reading, watching, listening to everything I could get on fasting as it relates to longevity, autophagy, etc., and the research is super compelling. The autophagy concept is what really roped me in. I'm building up to a prolonged fast in the next few weeks, but am about 3 weeks into doing the time restricted feeding, and I have felt some noticeable, though not profound improvements even in that short time.

My daughter asks me with some degree of frequency what I would choose if I could make one food that is bad for you good for you. Chick-fil-a classic nuggets with Polynesian sauce may be at the top of that list. Chick-fil-a not withstanding I don't eat fast food, but I could probably live off of those nuggets, if in fact one could live off of them.

@buggravy I had no idea you have a daughter. But yea, those nuggets are like crack. I can eat them without sauce no problem. And they're not THAT bad for you. Have I ever ordered (2) 12 count for me only.... maybe. I have.

Other than McD's egg white delights, I don't eat fast food either.

Yeah, I agree. At least they're actual chicken. When I'm on the road, and need protein quickly in the car, I get those more frequently than I care to admit. No fries, no sauce, no drink. Just nuggets. My brother and I talk often about how they need a 20 count. The 12 just isn't enough, but the 30 is obscene. 20 just sounds right.

And yeah, just turned 9y/o little girl named Kaia. I should send you a picture so you know whose college fund you're stealing from ;-).

Just get (2) 12 counts and toss 4 😛. Same here though. I love the waffle fries, but never get them. Nuggets, no sauce and two large waters. Sometimes (2) sandwiches on whole grain with extra pickle.

My daughter is 14. I'll send you a picture so you can be proud to fund her time at UNC Chapel Hill lol.

I’d at least feel better if you send her to App. Next time I’m in NC the 4 of us will have to get together for nuggets and car talk.

@buggravy I'm in the same boat at 41. Not the same extent but when one feels a bit winded after trying to tie their shoes, something isn't right.

I've had Chick-fil-a once and that was in your neck of the woods when were were on holidays in LA last spring. Definitely good, but I guess I didn't have the same things you guys had as I wasn't blown away. Don't have them here. I am however addicted to Popeyes spicy chicken since they showed up in my town. I can eat 4 pieces easy but need a nap immediately after. In fact, going to have some today or tomorrow. Jonesing.

For me it's not a conditioning thing. I'm in pretty excellent shape, but just have an inordinate amount of joint pain. The research on fasting shows really strong evidence that it puts your body in a state of autophagy, where it basically consumes the cells that aren't functioning properly, and replaces them with healthy cells. Some evidence that it can do similar with cancer cells. A recent study from USC showed cancer patients who were in remission, but whose immune systems had been ravaged by chemo, experienced what more or less equated to an immune system reboot through fasting. That's over simplified of course, but is the gist of the concept. Super fascinating stuff, to me at least.

And yeah, I think Chic-fil-a is very much a Southern US think that has spread. I was indoctrinated as a kid, but it only arrived in California within the last 5 - 10 years.

What's the best/easiest (emphasis on easiest) way to ship mounted wheels & tires? Ideally one where I can drive the wheels some place, hand them off with an address, and they magically appear at their destination.

Drop them off with a “pack and ship” type spot. They’ll hit you for ~$75 to box them up. Get final weight and dims and hit madyspop@yahoo for FedEx labels. His name is Caesar. I’ve used him for nearly 10 years. He’ll email labels, you’ll forward them to your spot.

Oh, ask packer to take a pic of each wheel sitting in box in case something happens.

Awesome, thanks. Maybe I owe you a consulting fee on all this, as this is for the buyer you got me in contact with as well. Not a done deal yet, but he's first in line.

I hope it works out. William seems like a stand-up guy. He went with AWE pipes and Brembo GT for B9 SQ5.

Those fucking shutters. They were a cluster, and we destroyed some top notch window trims that were original to put the on. Almost 5 years later and I'm still salty about it.

Yeah, William seems like a good dude. But if I understand correctly, they're not for him. He seems to be brokering the deal in some sort of official capacity.

I saw my "the one" today. The 288 GTO. Favorite car of all time that amazingly I have never seen in person. Living in SoCal, having seen LaFerraris, Enzos, F50s, numerous F40s, couple 250 SWBs, the stars have just never aligned for the 288. I'm working down in San Diego today, and turned right at the intersection by Ferrari of San Diego, and the bay door was open to the service area. I caught a glimpse and thought, "was that what I think it was?". Doubled back, got out, and stood in the rain to gawk. A tech saw me and said I was welcome to come in and look. 33 years since my copy of Road & Track with the 288 on the cover came in the mail, and I've been waiting to see one ever since. Was a really special moment for this car guy.

Congrats, love how they offer all the custom color choices. I read up on their new US Produced carbon offerings just a few weeks back.

Post up the compete build when she’s ready. Haven’t ridden my bike in almost 2 full months, starting to tweak a bit. Lots of snow out this way recently

Thanks. Yeah, I love their model, and I like the way they're going about the switch to carbon. I'm stoked I got the aluminum bike while they still made them, but I could see myself adding a carbon Trail Pistol down the line.

Got the bike put together (GX Eagle build), but have barely been in town the last couple weeks, and haven't had a chance to ride it yet. Hopefully this weekend, though the weather looks shit. We'll see.

So, I guess I just bought one of their new carbon bikes too. I got an email from them this week that anyone who took delivery of one of the aluminum bikes in the last 3 months could upgrade to a new carbon bike for 25% off. It was too much to resist. US made carbon bike with x01 build for basically $3,800. Madness. I bought the Trail Pistol, which is a bit different on paper, but not sure if they’ll end up in a showdown for the one do-it-all spot, or if they’ll compliment each other enough to justify keeping both.

That is awesome, congrats. Way to be GG, very cool offering. That is unreal for an X01 build. I’m still contemplating building up a 29 for this season. I demo’d the trail pistol during a trip back home when they were first released. Fun bike for sure.

came across this beauty out at the Kebler Pass trailhead outside Crested Butte this past weekend. THE only way to rock a Geo Tracker. Saw it in action towards the end of the day, pretty hilarious

Surprised this never really got off the ground, other than a few quick bursts of activity.

I'm snowboarding in Mammoth right now, if anyone cares. Currently looking out the kitchen window at a pile of snow that covers 2/3 of the window........on the second story.
This was our front door when we arrived a few weeks ago. It has snowed another 8-10 feet since then. Mammoth has already committed to staying open through 7/4 at least.

    So yesterday this happened.

Unlike me, my wife finds a vehicle she loves and holds on to it as long as possible. Back in February of 2007, we walked into our local Lexus store and she fell in love with a then-new-gen ES350. She drove it off the showroom floor. 145 months....and 191,000 miles later: echo. Same sales staff, same "let's make a deal" sales philosophy, new F&I guy, but he just started last month, coming over from Audi Marin. Really couldn't have been a more pleasant transaction. And the Mrs. is happy, which makes me very happy.

I'm hoping to give it some love this coming weekend, both with the detailing elbow grease as well as the camera. For the record, 2019 ES350 F Sport. Ultrasonic Blue Mica with a Circuit Red interior.

A parting shot of the old ES:

She - and I - will miss that car. It ate front brakes, but otherwise was a poster child for reliability and dependability. And comfort. Probably obvious, but the driving experience never did anything for me, but I loved that she loved it. Safe, reliable, comfortable, good stereo, great gas mileage...you really can't fault that Toyota formula. And it was a test bed for a lot of detailing products over the years, especially with the light gray ventilated front seats. The paint was a joy to correct, and it took sealants and coatings beautifully. The new one, with its US harder clearcoat, will be more like correcting Audi paint, but it's not a process I expect to repeat often. Here's to another 12 years...

    EDIT
Sorry for the blown out pics. My last shoot was indoor-low-light. ISO is usually the first setting I check, but I obviously goofed and shot these @ 4000. Oops. Corrected to best match the blue, but couldn't quite compensate for my goof.

New bike day. We've been tearing up the bike paths at the beaches with the kid, and I've been wanting a cooler bike for that. Been eyeing Townies for a while, but after finding out that the Townie Path in Nardo Grey (they actually call it Nardo) is a thing, I couldn't resist. It's an odd kind of bike to be stoked on, but I really am.

I'm in Arizona thru the end of the week, caring for my Dad as he recovers from a lengthy hospital & rehab stay. He really wanted to get his '15 A7 in for service, so for giggles we called Audi Tucson on Saturday to see if there'd be an opening this week. They got us in @ 8:30 this morning...then apologized they didn't have any more A6 loaners available. Amazing.

Great experience. Earlier this year they finished their remodel, and the service consultation area is easily twice the size of the one I'm used to visiting. Of course, I'm also used to being something like 11th in line for a 7am appointment. Today we were...first. Incredible what you can do with real estate and not as much demand. The adviser couldn't have been more nice and was very knowledgeable. He even talked my Dad out of extending Audi Care. "Wait 'til next year - it'll be the same price and we can take your money then." (My Dad's machine has just over 23k miles on it and this was the four-year/45k mile service.)

Our loaner is an A5 Sportback Prestige with less than 3k miles on the clock. Really sweet machine, and it makes me want an S5. Badly. At least until I tried the rear seats. I'm 5'9" and couldn't get in without banging all hell out of my head. Legroom is tight, but not unbearable...but there's just no way I could subject passengers to that abuse. I was bummed because the cargo area is more than sufficient for nearly all my music needs, and I think the dogs would be comfortable with the rear seats folded down. Wah.

Anyway, kind of cool to experience a dealership visit outside the bay area.

    [edit]
Got the A7 back in his hands...happy. Roamed around for a bit and sat in an RS5 Sportback and a Q7. I couldn't justify > $80k but it was fun to peek and dream a bit. Giggled at the $100k RS5 on our way out.

Finally did a full detail on the boss' car. A few folks have asked me offline what "full detail" means, so I thought this might be a good opportunity to do a write-up. Seven years ago our move to San Bruno coincided with me taking fewer and fewer detail jobs. Lots of life reasons there, but Mother Nature certainly had a say. Finding a full day without dramatic shifts in temperature and humidity is really rare. While I've been able to do customer work at shops or in owner garages, my own vehicles tend to go longer and longer between washes, let alone any correction and protection work. My wife's Lexus is a great example. She bought the thing in March, and yesterday was my first opportunity to really chase after it. In that time I have done a couple of quick washes, and took those opportunities to make notes on spots that needed attention, so I was able to plan my attack in case of mid-late afternoon weather changes. (Which happened. Less than an hour after I finished we were fully fogged in. Two miles southeast the sun shined brightly.)

I didn't capture progress pics - something I frequently forget - because I was trying to be as efficient as possible. For those interested, here's the products/process/time summary.

    Wash/Decon:
    • Optimum ONR wash. Two buckets, red sponge & MF towels, wheel woolie brush; waffle weave MF towel for drying. (< 2 gal. water consumed.) Top down, wheels, tires & wells last. ~ 20 minutes.
    • Optimum FerreX and Clay Magic fine grade clay bar w/ ONR as lube. Wipe & dry w/ ONR. ~ 30 minutes.

With the car clean I inspected the paint. Plenty of light swirls from the original dealer detail, along with a few scratches and mars. Correction work was done with my trusty old PC 7424XP, using a mixture of 3, 4, and 5" Lake Country foam pads. A test spot on the trunk showed that the clear coat is indeed pretty hard. ~ 15 minutes.

    Correction:
    • Optimum Hyper Compound w/ LC Orange on hood, trunk, roof, and a few spots on rear deck lid, fenders, and doors. This took care of the scratches and swirls. ~ 75 minutes.
    • Optimum Hyper Polish w/ LC White on all panels and headlight & tail light lenses. ~ 90 minutes.
    • Optimum Paint Prep w/ MF towel on entire car. ~ 15 minutes.

    Protection:
    • Optimum Gloss Coat w/ foam applicator on entire car (paint, wheels, trim, lenses). Top-down, panel-by-panel (and wheel by wheel) w/ Paint Prep wipe followed by application of coating; inspection and follow-up as needed to ensure proper flashing. ~ 50 minutes.

Break for late lunch and to stare longingly at the beer I promised myself when the job is done. ~ 60 minutes.

At this point it's a bit after 3pm and the fog is coming in.

    Finishing Up:
    • Optimum Opti-Bond tire gel on the sidewalls, immediately followed by a wipe with MF towel for very matte look. ~ 15 minutes.
    • Optimum Opti-Seal on entire car with MF towel. Opti-Seal is a life saver for those of us who can't keep a vehicle safe from the environment while the coating fully cures (one week). ~ 15 minutes.
    • Quick interior detail with ONR and MF towels. Wipe down of dash, seats, optics, door panels, etc. Glass is done the same way, just with fresh towels. One final wipe with dry towel to ensure against streaks. ~ 15 minutes.

So, including clean-up this was roughly 7.5 hours of work. If this was a customer job I'd have billed no more than 6.5 hours - I've got a case of "holy shit I'm in my 50's" so the pace isn't what it used to be and my bladder creates more frequent breaks than in years past. At the same time, all of the Optimum stuff is so easy to use, and the small details (i.e. compound and polish in spray bottles) make for quicker work. And this prompts the disclaimer & detailer's adage: Great results are 90% process and 10% product. Use the stuff you like that gives you the results you're after.

Ok, after one more pit stop, a romp with the dogs, and a final glance at that beer in the fridge, it was time for a few glamour shots. All my favorite scenic spots were fully fogged in, so it was down to SFO.

Thanks for reading along, and I hope this is helpful for fellow enthusiasts. Happy detailing!

Holy S... Came across this at random but someone give this man some props for that detailed write-up. That process is pretty nuts, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want to drive my car ever again after doing that to it. I clay barred my car once and I think it took like 2 or 3 hours and after a wash plus that I'm beat. I will likely reference this in the future however when looking for products and ideas. Thanks

As I share pics this is going to sound really stupid, but....pics don't do this thing justice. In the flesh it is absolutely stunningly gorgeous. It totally blew me away. The majesty of the Q7 platform. I wish I could've heard it fire up, but since the front brakes got me a little excited I figured I better get out of there before security came by.
