Is Zinc coating rotors a waste on a track car?

So I'm thinking that when I got a zinc coating on rotors I used out on the track it was a waste of money and I wouldn't do it again. My reasoning is that zinc has a pretty low melting point of 787 F and hard braking will easily generate temperatures that exceed this. After one track season the zinc coating on the non-swept portion of the discs is long gone, replaced by iron oxide.

    Any contrary thoughts on this?
