    Several errors just came up

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I have had no problems with the car at all, I stopped at drive thru, got my food and as I started the car and selected D, I got a Gearbox Malfunction. I put immediately in P, turned off the car, then turned it back on and selected D, and the error came again. For the next 30 minutes I just drove home and from time to time I stopped and turned off/on to see if it fixes, but nope. The car is Audi A6 C7 2012 3.0 TDI 245PS.

Those are the fault codes I got when I ran the scan:

Anyone have a single clue what might be wrong? And I should probably say, car runs like butter, I tried the tiptronic - changes all gears smoothly, back runs well, nothing unexpected when in neutral...

    Huge thanks in advance!

Is the shifter linkage goofed up (shifter position indicator out of sync with the what the valve body is doing)?

The starter lockout is related to the shifter Park position.

Guys! I just turned the car on, went to work for a few hours and the car was under the sun (if that even matters) and as I headed home - tens of errors started occurring.

TPMS fault, Parking brake system fault, EPS system fault, the glow plug for diesels lamp went on. They all go on and of whenever they decide, the car became a Christmas tree! I don't know what is happening, has this ever happened to anyone?! At the same time, the car drives, switches gears, breaks all fine! It does not go in the emergency mode (where you can't drive over certain speeds)...

Any help would be much appreciated before I go to Audi

edit: for a certain moment even the engine lamp came on

Could be a long shot, but this could be something as simple as a bad/old battery acting up.. How old is your battery?

It has never been changed, it is produced in 2012

The car had almost no problems since I drive it (2 years) it has been always serviced at Audi and all those errors coming up in like 2 days just scare the living ... out of me

    so you say bad battery?

edit: just a quick update; for the crap of it, I just started the car again and the airbag warning went on, while almost all of the other errors did not come up.. super strange

I have some of the same, strange errors randomly, was the battery, even if the car started normally.

Damn battery, I hope it is it. Although I measured it and it said 12.36V charge.

Besides battery, what else could it be on a car that is 90% of the day in a garage, has never been in an accident and is certainly not been wet, as some other threads suggested to people with the same errors. Some computer electronics or cables? Also I hope this kind of repair is not expensive because we all know what Audi is capable of :D

I’d have the battery load tested and go from there. Dying batteries will cause some really crazy faults and what you’re experiencing isn’t out of the realm of possibilities.

The battery load means the liquid that's inside the battery, or the battery charge that I managed to measure - 12.36V. I am in no means professional but will the battery store do anything different then measure the voltage?

One easy thing to try is to put it on a battery tender (also called a trickle charger) to charge overnight. Most of them will give you a reading on the percentage that your battery is charged.

If it will take the charge, odds are you'll be able to clear all your codes and not have an issue.

A weak battery can cause many faults, since a one of the many microcontrollers can hang up the CAN bus causing random errors. The CAN bus is a parallel interface with termination resistors to reduce relections on the cable. If one microcontroller input/output interface to the CAN bus ramps slowly or gets stuck to one of the rails, it can generate many errors on the CAN bus.

The internal battery resistance of the battery goes up as the battery ages & the battery capacity is reduced.

Check the battery status using the VAGCOM (Ross-Tech): VCDS under 19-CAN gateway > Measuring Blocks > Groups 18,19 and 20

Example below from my old B8 S4, when the battery was getting low. Measured, with engine off.

One can also check the alternator operation (goes up to the around 14.7V) by checking these groups with the engine running.

Address Group 018: Power Supply (Battery)
    12.000 V Battery Voltage
    -9.7 A Battery Current
    25.0°C Battery Temp. (Estimate)
    26.0°C Battery Temp. (Ambience)

Address Group 019: Power Supply (Battery)
37.0 % Battery State of Charge (SOC)
40.0 % Battery State (as shown in MMI)
42.0 % Battery Aging (derived fr. Load)
90.0 % Battery Aging (derived fr. Output)

Address Group 020: Power Supply (Battery)
5.4 mOhm Internal Battery Resistance (actual)
3.2 mOhm Internal Battery Resistance (stan.)
    10 Ah Battery Capacity (actual/available)
    12.40 V Quiescent Voltage
