    Alternator help!

So my alternator is weak and my mechanic said I need to repalce it because it is undercharging the battery. I want to buy a used low milage alternator as I do not want to put in a remanufactured one. Does anyone know which other models of vw that use the same alternator? The reason I ask is because it is cheaper when you buy it this way. For example, I found this but am not sure if it would fit.

Go to rockauto.com and put in your car info. Then go to alternator. Click on the part number and a chart comes up with what vehicles they fit.

I don't know what model year your car is, but I have a 2009 and the Bosch works for me. Otherwise, follow Nova's advice.

My alternator seized on me. Not a fun experience.

A used low mileage alternator will be less reliable than a reman. Reman quality is what effects their life, bosch, delco remy, and denso are the only 3 brands i ever recommend. Have had a delco remy from rockauto on mine for two years.

So far I am very happy with the remanufactured alternator on my A4 b6. It's been over a year and it still works fine. Clicky click®

I have heard buying a used alternator is bad. Why is this the case?

Also, is it this easy to change the alternator?

    Alternator help!

Bought one at autozone many thousands of miles ago and swapped it in their parking lot. There’s a YouTube video of some guy’s girlfriend doing the swap.

Ps do yourself a favor and swap the idler pulley while you’re there if the car is high miles.

I used REMY 12994 from rockauto.com for 138.99 after core return which is 140 amp. If you are looking at bosch, AL0891X I believe is what you are looking for. The one you posted is for a B7 FSI engine.
