I wonder if you could make a provision to install your presense sensor on your intercooler, perhaps having someone weld a mount on the bottom of the IC and center it for you can have it calibrated by audi.

Just a thought. It would be somewhat hidden and stealthy.

Just remember a stealth crash bar is really for flow rather than safety, The OEM crash bar is huge and very light and covers a large area. I would really only recommend a stealth bar for the track.

Aww damn, it does not block everything. Some blockage is better than none I guess.

back to the OP holesaw crash bar. Doing that wouldn't decrease the effectiveness of it would it? I mean the bar still attaches to the two points on the frame to distribute the impact. I mean if an insurance adjuster saw it after a crash you would be fucked anyway but it wouldn't allow more damage would it?

It probably would. Whatever that crash bar is there to do, you're drastically reducing its rigidity and structural integrity by drilling holes into it. If you were trying to kick a door in, which would be easier a solid door or one with a bunch of holes drilled into it? All things being the same, you're putting equivalent kinetic energy into less mass.

    I don't think that's the same analogy
If you ran face first into a door the impact is not distributed over 2 cross points like the metal bumper. The metal bumper takes an impact dead center and directs that energy towards the side mounting points.

Iíd have to agree with you, using a stealth or modified holesaw crash bar should be strictly for the track etc. I would not daily with a reduced bar or without the bar at all.

    But thatís just me.

It's not that I'm trying to stir the pot but since we are on the topic, Wagner incorporated the crash bar into a reinforced intercooler. It's tube and fin, has nothing blocking the frontal area, and will have good flow thru to the radiator. And go.

Nice. I saw this unit on 034s TTRS at our 5cyl shoot out in Sacramento. Solid looking setup.

I have one on order, waiting for shipment to drop. Hoping to install by the 24th for upcoming track day. Few other parts going on and a new alignment/corner balance to keep up with the tune. Love the grill with the intercooler on your car. I'll post a pic after the install.

I would wait for Uni's. Will not need any mods, and cool with the best of them, or better. ;)

Quick question. For those of us who do not have the opportunity to install these FMICs themselves, what would a good price be to pay for labor for an intercooler install at a Garage?
    Thank you in advance..

Thatís a really nice setup! I assume that itís focused on racing use only and really doesnít provide much crash protection.

I dont see how the crash bar does anything except deflection and if your smashing into something hard enough to use it your already well into replacing most of everything anyway.

just so we are all clear, it's not a crash bar, it's your bumper. Yes it attaches and deflects energy into the frame connecting points

I think it depends on the intercooler you go with, STM could require some modification as it is a little thicker than Iroz. I would say 2 1/2 would be a decent shop rate as most may charge 4. If you have a good friend that can help you can knock it out in about 4 hours like we did, but I also had to remove the headlight & crashbar to install the STM intercooler.

    Thank you.

This helps me get some perspective to negotiate a fair deal.

    Again, I appreciate your time!

Hey George, now that you have tested out the car a bit with the whole intercooler exposed, what have you seen in terms of iats compared to before with the intercooler blocked? Have you seen significant gains with that whole intercooler being exposed or not really? Let us know.
