    Best E85 Content Monitor

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey all,

About to flash the APR E85 Tune with switching and I want to get a Bluetooth content monitor. I've seen a lot of fuel-it apps around the forums, but not a specific kit that will work on the RS3.

Wondering what everyone thinks is the best monitor for this platform?

I'm running the APR stage 1 E85 map and bought the fuel it bluetooth kit from Eurocode, makes it easy to monitor the ethanol content.

I run the Fuel-It! sensor and installed it myself, works great, quick, easy to use/install, and seems pretty reliable. I did have some issues during install, but that seemed to be from an OEM Audi part, fixed it myself in a couple of minutes.

Green is fuel, Yellow is ethanol sensor, Blue is bluetooth module, and red is the power/ground wires. Took about 20 minutes to install, very easy + 30 minutes of testing/fixing the fuel leak I created.

    EDIT:

Tapped into fuse F10, which is the fuel pump fuse that you'll be messing with during install.

i wouldnt cut the hose right there

if you look at that same line closer to the manifold there is already a coupler in the hose that can be removed and the sensor installed there

Feel free to do it however you want, with proper fittings it shouldn't matter. I did mine there because the quick disconnect coupler you're talking about started leaking on my initial install, had to modify to this =(

my only reasoning is that i can reinstall that part and remove the sensor without the dealer ever knowing.

I agree, I wanted to use that originally but the leak ruined that idea for me.

He's talking about the area in red, its normally a double sided quick disconnect coupler.

Up above you'll see a fuse box diagram with the fuse F10 being used, this is the Fuel Pump fuse and you'll be pulling it to install the new line and sensor anyways.

If you got chresed by fuel-it, with VW/Audi kit before the 2.5L intro, like me, AND paid the extra :headbang: $20 for shipping, when it is free from eurocod. Cheap asses at fuel-it would not credit the 20$, so they desperate with poor CS!

Anyway, the lines are a diff size, that you can cut, everything else the same per Steve@fuel-it to match the RS3 kit.

Fuel line between sensor and quick connect is 3.5"
Fuel line between sensor and barbed connection to HPFP is 9"

    Thank you!
    Fuel-It!

Resurrecting this for a minute. Does anyone know which fuel line feeds the high pressure fuel pump?

    1) why would you want to tap a hpfp line? Do you know how much pressure comes out of there???
    2) maybe that line feeds the injectors and hpfp, which came directly from the tank, and 100% fine to tap to measure gas content (less gas more et-oh, since it does not actually measure et-oh) low pressure fuel, even before rail, etc..

I want to avoid putting the ethanol content monitor in the line feeding the high pressure fuel pump. Doing some additional research this morning, the fuel line that is strapped to the front of the intake manifold is the supply line to both the port injectors as well as the HPFP. The other line is the return to the fuel tank from the pressure regulator. I will be putting my monitor in the return line, as not to possibly interfere with the fuel delivery.

I understand your point, but an O2 sensor affects performance, due to possible flow restriction?

Please fill me in on anything you've might have learned that the Continental sensor affects fuel flow in anyway.

Tapping the return line is interesting though.

Fuel may be more heated than the supply line (any accel wear potential or anything negative possible going that route)?

Finally got it installed on the return line yesterday. Does not work (almost zero return fuel).
Having to move it to other line. Will try to remove the quick connect from the supply line (front of engine) and from that 90 deg line.

Working with the Fuel-IT guys to adjust the kit for our cars to improve the kit.

    Best E85 Content Monitor

Got it installed. Works great. I think that the Fuel-It team will be updating the kit to include parts that better fit our specific application.

The install now is nearly unnoticeable.

Thanks for doing that. I was conversing with them as well and they had requested photos of the fuel lines and the the fittings under the sheathing so they could improve their site and have the correct kit for our car. Their current offerings are only for the 2.0t and Earlier 2.5t setup.

I think with what I've given them, they should have updated kits in a couple weeks with better fittings / hose & cable lengths, specific for our cars.

I have no idea how to disassemble that 'quick connect' at the front of the motor, I simply removed the hose from the supply side of the quick connect. I also relocated the bluetooth 'dongle' from the sensor to the driver side firewall using an extension cable. Makes it look more 'stock' to me.

I reused both the fitting at the rear (90 deg) and front (quick connect). This let me keep my stock fuel line intact.

I'm interested in installing one of these too. Please post more pics. Much appreciated.

Ran across this video..... can a more experienced person (I continue to pull the newbie card...) debunk this video and explain if it has merit or if this is unique to Zeitronix having an issue reading Ethanol content. Just wanting to verify if current sensors do and can provide an accurate ethanol reading essentially or if ethanol reading and detection of water in the fuel shouldn't be conflated.

The sensors do not measure ethanol content, rather the lack of gasoline. They assume anything thatís not gasoline is ethanol. Not super accurate by any stretch, but good for a general sense of whatís going into your engine.

Our basic 93 here in MI is reading E13 as a point of reference.

Ran it down to 15 miles to empty today. Put 2 gal of e85 in, and 11.05 gal of 93 in. Sensor is showing e21 now.

Using same e13 from before, assuming ~1gal left in tank, that means our e85 is actually around e70.

I understand the reasoning behind knowing what % the E85 fuel is, but if the APR tune is good from E60-E85, what exactly would you do if your sensor read E50 or E90? Pull over and drain the tank? Drive super cautious until you found a higher quality fuel?

I think what I will do is simply get a cheap E85 plastic tube kit and see what each local station has to offer from an ethanol content. From what I've searched on other forums around Chicagoland, Shell seems to suck and Thortons seems to be good.

I would almost recommend a thread where users that have ethanol content sensors or have used the cheap manual tube gadgets to test content to post results based on region.

What would happen running the APR E85 tune if you only got E50 or E55 at that pump, or if it was actually E90?

Not bashing anyone that's installed the monitors, I just have some questions on all the stuff mentioned above.

    Thanks

    Fuel-it???

Why you use live measuring blocks and see how the car responds to the fuel.
