The APR Open Carbon Fiber Intake System is Here!

The APR Open Carbon Fiber Intake System is the ultimate intake system for the 3.0 TFSI. The factory system is dramatically undersized, creating a power robbing inlet restriction that’s ever-so apparent at higher horsepower levels. To address this, we’ve done away with the airbox completely and created a new drop-in open system that literally installs in minutes. Our beautiful carbon fiber air-dam directs air into our massively oversized 7” filter with frontal inlet, and includes a thick T304 Stainless-Steel heat shield and air buffer-gap on the back of the carbon fiber shell to reject heat from the engine bay. The 4” inlet is compatible with the factory inlet, or the upgraded APR Ultracharger System, and creates an uninterrupted airflow path into the supercharger for maximum results.

With flow bench gains as high as 268 CFM at 28" of H2O over the factory intake system, we were able to measure an average of 17 AWHP more than the factory system. The intake looks the part with extremely precise fitment, and delivers a scream from the supercharger like none-other. This is the intake system you’ve always needed!

    Quick Details

    • Massive airflow improvements
      502 CFM at 28" of H2O Stock
      770 CFM at 28" of H2O APR w/ UC
    • Massive power gains: 17 AWHP @ Stage 2+ (93)
    • Carbon fiber air-dam
    • T304 stainless steel heat shield
    • 7” cotton filter with frontal inlet
    • SAI breather filter included
    • Billet-aluminum mounting feet
    • Billet-aluminum 4” flange adapter
    • Compatible with stock an APR Ultracharger setups
    • Easily installs in minutes

    Dyno:

    Flow Bench:

The APR Intake system dramatically out performs the factory intake system and improves upon the closed box design. As performance increases, so does the importance of a high-flow high-quality intake system as a large pressure drop forms between the factory intake’s inlet and outlet.

As listed in the chart every combination of APR Intake Systems and throttle body pipes dramatically outflowed their stock counterparts. The APR Open Intake System with APR Ultracharger is roughly 35% less restrictive compared to the factory intake at 28" of H2O. By allowing the engine to breathe, the intake system lowers the intake air temperature, and allows for performance gains upwards of 17 AWHP at Stage 2+ (93). As performance climbs further, so do the power gain seen with the APR Intake system!

For more information about the rear throttle body inlet pipe, please visit our product page.

    Awesome! Thanks!

Do you guys have any sound clips of it? Interested to hear how loud the supercharger is with this intake.

Please can you advise the difference in gain between this unit and the stage 2 Apr intake closed box.

    Purchased! Should have it tomorrow.

Question: I am currently going to be running the stock backpipe. Would there be any advantage to getting the APR Stage II backpipe?

Hey Arin, so will this work on a 2009 B8 A5 3.2L V6? It’s doesn’t come up as compatible on the apr website.

Most likely yes (if it doesn't have a MAF housing).

Yes, there's a big increase in flow with the back pipe.

Thanks. Will probably get that next.

Just received and installed the intake. Installation was easy and fit/finish are excellent. Haven't taken it for a spin yet but am looking forward to hearing that supercharger!!!

    Thanks Arin!

The supercharger sound is a bit quieter compared to the video I saw. Is that because of my stock backpipe?

Also, on cold starts I get a pretty loud intake suction sound that seems to be coming from the breather filter. It lasts for about 30 seconds and then stops.

Is that normal and something you just don't hear with the stock setup?

I asked APR the same question, I'm fitted with the closed box, back pipe and ultracharger. I chose the closed box because APR recommended it only to now see posts all over IG about how you need to let your ultracharger breathe!

I would like a clear and simple answer on the difference in gain between open and closed box.

Both the backpipe and the ultracharger should make the intake system louder.

Also, on cold starts I get a pretty loud intake suction sound that seems to be coming from the breather filter. It lasts for about 30 seconds and then stops.

Is that normal and something you just don't hear with the stock setup?
That's normal. The factory intake buried the hose inside the airbox, making it harder to hear.

Yes, that's the main reason we made this system. We measured about +10 AWHP at Stage 2+

I think the biggest appeal for me with this air intake vs. the APR closed box is that changing out the headlight bulb will be a breeze now!!!
Yes, I'd like this air intake, but then I've wasted my money on the closed box.
Therefore, I think making holes to the closed box may be the next mod!

Looks nice, would purchase this if I didn't already have the Roc-Euro intake. This is of identical design but with the flashier carbon fiber look. Curious as to the sound of this vs. the Roc Euro I'm sure they are very similar.

Any chance you will come out with a carbon cover for it? I like the design and have ordered one just like the clean look with the cover when hood is open.

Not really looking for closed system I guess more of a hybrid of both like the ECS system. I do like the looks of your system. Its my daily driver so don’t want it to loud and like the looks of all carbon.

Guess I will try it when I get it and see how it is as far as SC whine etc. Don’t want it to loud

I did have your closed system at one point. But fitment wasnt great so sold it. Didnt seal great on stock box

Really need to relocate the fuel line ruins the look.

Sound in cabin with windows up. I can try to get a better one if people are interested.

Love it! So this is better than the closed system correct? Also the back pipe is there a combo discount?

Just received and installed the intake. Installation was easy and fit/finish are excellent. Haven't taken it for a spin yet but am looking forward to hearing that supercharger!!!

Have you had a chance to compare the stock intake pipe vs an aftermarket one. I’m curious to hear how much louder it would be. I almost want to get this intake but don’t want it to be loud. So I was thinking it paired with the stock intake tube would maybe be a good compromise.

Yes. Stock pipe is much quieter. You still get a little supercharger whine but it’s more subtle. Paired with the APR carbon fiber backpipe, the supercharger is a bit louder.
