Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Some crazy new thing is happening now if you click anywhere to type something or do something now you get a full screen maximized Loki video that pops up like I clicked on a video to watch or some shit. You either got hacked and someone’s having fun with you or you’re going a bit overboard with trying to make money from every Tom Dick and Jane selling you on their ad options. How much money can there actually be in ads…? For real, just shoot out a rough number per month you get out of the ads that pop up and no other interaction from them like user click through on them. I’m in all honesty interested in knowing.

The SHRM ad also cannot be closed no matter what.

The Loki in a Google Ads one that automatically calls for a full screen video playback of the Loki video ad itself. That could be a byproduct of iOS Safari engine or how the ad was coded, but that’s not cool either. I’m out until all this calms down… I hadn’t been on the forum in a few days and coming back to see where people were at with diagnosing their problems and updates has me frustrated beyond belief with this ad junk. I respect your decision to run ads no matter what, but I don’t think you’re doing your due diligence on testing on both Android and iOS platforms because you’re probably using an app to surf your own forums rather than the mobile site… which also plays along with why vbulletin is or was outdated and may still be. I’d check, but I’m tired of the ads…. lol

Did it stick to the viewport so it stayed in the middle of the screen when you scrolled? Or was it stuck to the top of post #10727?

Stubek, That placement and behavior doesn't look like any type of ad we traffic. Members should only see regular banner ads in the forums, with nothing that pops up or floats. I don't immediately see another source that could be serving this unit but we will keep looking. If it happens again and you know how, could you "save as" for the whole page and send a copy of the saved page to [email protected] so we can dig in further?

    Thanks

Can you tell me how to "save as" for the whole page on my iPhone, is that possible?

Ah sorry, didn't realize you were on mobile. Yes. In Safari:

    1. Click the "Share" button in Safari (the square with the up-arrow icon)
    2. At the top of the Share window, click "Options >", then change the "Send As" to "Web Archive", click "Done"
    3. Then click "Save To Files". You can then send that file to: [email protected]

That should get us a copy of the page as you see it, hopefully we can help track the source from there. Thanks

FYI, the WebKit engine will “autoplay” video based ads for like movies. There’s some new ad for movies that keeps popping up and the default behavior is to show that thumbnail video playback in the middle of the screen with a black background… kinda like you open a video on a page and played it.

If you guys at this ad company aren’t visiting the forum pages ON MOBILE then you’re not doing proper testing for your customers to know exactly what bs you’re injecting into the sites and how it will behave. You need to do more thorough testing that what you’re doing from the looks of it.

I understand your frustration, but the format shown in the screenshot is not an ad format we have targeted and we do not recognize the container styling or behavior as coming form any partner we work with. We've tested the forum on mobile many times but have never seen this specific ad behavior which is why we have asked for a page export. Either this unit is coming through one of our demand channels by mistake but only targeted to a subset of users, or it's from another source. Either way we'd like to help track it down as it seems both annoying and unintentional.

Guys, why hasn’t the issue with the Progressive ad been fixed. Those ads cannot be closed with the X that appears in the upper left corner as you scroll and they do overlap the forum content and also grow I size if you scroll back down. Super annoying. It’s the ones I posted in the screenshots.

    - - - Updated - - -

BTW, it’s NOT a Google ad, it’s something else you guys are using because it doesn’t have the interface on it to close it out like Google ads do.

SwankPeRFection, This ad doesn't seem to be served from a legitimate demand channel, or there is a targeting error from somewhere upstream. It would be helpful if you are able to send us this the next time it appears. Thank you

Getting ads from Century College that fill the screen and then minimize to the lower portion. Can't be closed out, but it eventually times out and disappears. I also get ones from Best Buy that do the same thing. Refreshing the screen just starts it over.

Diokhan, those units should be closeable. That particular creative is problematic because they render differently than most of the ads that appear in the sticky footer. After shrinking or closing that ad, click the X on the white container stuck to the bottom of the viewport. It should keep it closed for at least 24 hours.

These half page popup ads are killing me! Am I able to subscribe to audizine to go add-free?

I don't mind the banner ads from sponsors, but I certainly mind these page takeover ads. The Southwest Airlines add popped up 5 times while I was writing this. Clicking the minimize and the x makes no difference. They just come back. Now I'm up to 7 times....

Any chance you could give me a screen shot of that one? That doesn't sound like proper behaviour of an ad - so at the very least I'd like to see if we can clean up the ad behaviour to the way it *should* be working!

Diokhan came here to say what I came to say. Southwest's Week of Wow is blowing up the whole page, and it temporarily locks down all clicks on the page until it has a chance to swell up and take up the entire page. This thing is super intrusive, 1990s style. Every few seconds, a flashing red banner comes up around the entire page, and while it's doing that, you can't click anything. Then the bottom 20% of the window is this gigantic red banner that covers everything. It almost looks like malware.

    I'm running Chrome, current version.

It also does it on Firefox.

After clicking it away, it was staying in the background and preventing clicks like mentioned above. The constant popups are preventing me from using the site. Today is bad, but yesterday I couldn't use the site at all due to this. I get the site is expensive to run, but I hope there is a middle ground with ads that works for you guys.

Attached are a couple screenshots; the second one showing the popup in the background.

Same boat here. I'm also using Chrome. The ad doesn't go away, and it is really interfering with how the site functions. Something similar happened with a Best Buy ad (I think it was Best Buy) a few months back. Sorry that I can't share screen shots, but Diokhan's screen shot is exactly what I'm seeing right now. There is no X button, but what looks like half of a little collapse button, hidden kind of behind the scroll bar, that sort of shrinks the ad a little bit. After a few seconds of being shrunk, it swells back up, grabs the screen for a bit, and then pops back into full size.

I had some success when I clicked the half-visible button a few times after collapsing it (it might become an X after you collapse it), and the ad finally went away. Having to interact with an ad like that is a bit much--it shouldn't hijack control of the site from users.

Edit: I think I made it angry! This time, before I could click the collapse button, it swelled to full screen and completely covered the page! Kill this thing, please. With fire.

Pretty please with Sugar on top... can we have a screen grab of it?

Seriously, if people just post screen captures of the ads it increases the speed at which we can fix the problem by like 3,000%. It may seem obvious to you, but the ad experience is customized to literally every single individual user of this site. We do not see what you see. Screen grabs give us so much information, and it is only good for you to give more information.

We can fix things... we just need your help to know what to fix! Ads are crazy, we 100% get that. They're terrible, awful, horrible, etc. We want to balance making money with having a good user experience, and frankly we don't even make the bulk of our money off of you guys. We make most revenue off of Google visitors buzzing through to find obscure information on their Audis.

Help us Debug the member experience, please!!!! Screen shots!!!

Sorry, I know. I just wasn't able to do it on this computer. But it was literally the same exact ad and picture that Diokhan had just provided. I would have done it on another machine if I had seen it again, but it stopped.

Well between the two of you we got it figured out. It actually was a great campaign for one day, but the company that sold it put it in the wrong slot. :( Ended up being a super stupid issue and I'm a bit embarrassed at how long it took to figure out. Sorry about that.

The more information I can get about a problem the better. So if you ever see anything in the future, please try to get that screen shot. Usually from that I can infer a lot of stuff like browser, OS, Device type, etc. Gives a lot of clues other than just looking at the creative. :)

Could you do me a favour if you see this before I get rid of it?

Click on this grey rectangle above the ad below the nav bar:

I bet you can dismiss it right there, because this is an interstitial you should not have gotten and I think it is just really big. :)

Seems like clicking anywhere on the site, trying to select text, clicking on links etc can pop up chaturbate in a different tab. This happens on Chrome on desktop and Chrome on mobile. Havent tried other browsers. Has been going on the past couple weeks.

Rest assured, we are all working as a team to get rid of this. I'm afraid that it is an extremely complicated issue, but we're going to get to the bottom of it. I promise.

    Hello,

We've helped Audizine track down the potential source of these redirects. Please update this thread if you notice the issue is resolved. It would be helpful to know if the fix was successful or not.

    Thanks
