Storage for 2.5 years...what steps not to miss?

    Hello ladies and gentlemen,

Will cross-post in S4 and S5 forums. As I have a B8.5 S5, but the S4 forum has always been a bit more active.

Have a 2013 B8.5 S5 3.0T that has been in storage for 2.5 years. It has not been run that entire time. I'm carving out some time to get it back operating again. I know have some significant steps in front of me. Just wanted to consult with the group on suggestions and/or to make sure I'm not missing anything.

    1. Drain/change oil
    2. Drain gas
    3. Spark plugs
    4. New battery
    5. Spray fogging oil in spark plug cyliders?
    6. Maybe new coolant?
    7. Probably need to do transmission and diff fluid changes while at it
    8. New tires because of flat spots from sitting so long

Any other things missing? Car has around 55k miles on it. Water pump, pcv, thermostat???

I searched forums for any relevant topic and couldn't find any. Appreciate the help. My wife and myself would really enjoy driving the car again.

You are wise to research what to do. My approach would be to search based on: was the car prepared in any way before storage, where was it stored, how was it running before storage. Takes time, but being careful could save you money and heartache. Best of luck.

I think you've got it covered pretty good. Getting it started items at the top are the most important. Oil Change, fogging the cylinders, and changing the oil. I think I'd hold off on the plugs until after you get it started and run up to temp once. Probably need to replace the battery, but if it's been on a battery tender and startes fine you can probably get by until fall timeframe when temps start to drop.

Thank you so much @keithyo88 and @hahnmgh63. Probably won't get around to it the next few weeks, but will start getting my parts in order to tackle it. The car was not prepped at all. Basically parked and not touched, so didn't make it easier on myself. Appreciate the help and encouragement!

I would also check the antifreeze(looking on the bright, healthy side) and, depending on the condition, put a coat of protection on the rubber seals at door, windows, hood, trunk. Also might blow out the engine before doing any work.
