    Strange parking brake behavior

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Recently after I shut off the ignition about 20 seconds later I can hear the parking brake engage then disengage. I have not set the parking brake when this happens. It happens completely randomly. It won't do it for days or weeks then one random day it does it. The parking brake still works correctly if I use it. Is this normal?

I've never experienced that with mine.

Itís happened to me before about a handful of times. The only thing is mine does it about 5-10secs after I turn off ignition. Nothing detrimental has resulted from it so Iím not worried about it. My only guess is that maybe thereís a sensor that picked something up where it needed to engage the parking brake

Do you think there mightíve been some vehicle movement right after you turned off ignition? Maybe thereís a safety feature that enables the parking brake if it detects movement after switching off ignition to prevent rolling. Who knows, just my guess

Actually there was. It rolled forward slightly then rocked back and forth a little bit. Why would it do it 10 seconds later tho? Also why would it engage then immediately disengage?

I have experienced this as well. Parking Brake on when I didn't set it. Seen it 2 or 3 times in the 3 months I have had the car. No pattern to it that I have been able to work out. 2014 allroad AT.

I have not had this problem, but on a related note, my parking brake gets stuck after I wash the car or when it rains. There are other audizine threads on it-where others say an e-brake linkage rusts from moisture. To unrelease it, i have to hit the gas, then a loud bang happens, before it disengages and the car can finally move forward. Audi dealerships can not 'replicate' the problem and therefore fix it. Stupid AUDI!!!. This e-brake issue along with my p0456 engine code error, crankcase pressure regulator valve, and the recalls. -I must have a lemon.

Mine does not do that, and I often see the condition you're talking about when it rolls back a bit when I put it in Park on my 10į driveway. Mine just rolls back till the pawl in the tranny catches. No P Brake flakyness.

It's happened to me once or twice. I'm not worried about it.

Its the car adjusting for rear brake wear. It does it every 500-800 miles. Last year i put 74,000 miles on my car, id hear it ďadaptĒ sometimes twice in one day. Totally normal.

Why not do that in something less expensive and cheaper on gas?

you say cheaper but what is comparable with awd and around 300 hp? Without the rack this gets mud 30ís mpgs. In the west there is winter conditions, mountain passes and trucks. I was using a c6 a6 for two years before i got this.
