Help! Cannot shift into S nor downshift in Tip

Since messing with my shifter a while back, I somehow am unable to shift into S or if I kick it into Tip mode, I can't pull the shifter down to downshift. I feel like it's something physical, but I cannot see anything wrong with it.

Also, during this time, there was a couple instances where I could not shift out of N after pulling out of a parking spot, which was embarrassing to say the least. Fixed it by rapidly stepping on/off the brakes and wiggling the shifter left to right. That released the shift release that was getting stuck somehow.

Now, if I want to get a little spirited, I have to throw the shifter to the right and grab the left paddle for a downshift.

I've put a screwdriver to the little manual release switch in the ashtray, but that doesn't fix the inability to shift down past D.

Looking for any ideas. Thanks in advance.

When you push in the button on the shifter does it lift the plastic rod up? Have you tried to move it without the shift knob on?

The shifter works as normal otherwise, just won't physically move below D. And doing it without the shifter on, pulling on the plastic bit, yields the same result.

Sounds like there is a physical block of the shifter. Removing the shift boot didnít reveal and thing? Time to get under the car and check the linkage. Are you missing any tools from your recent engine work?

    Thanks for the reply.

No, I'm not missing anything AKAIK. I guess I will get under there and peep it out when I redo my brakes
