    A5/S5 Coupe with Kids??

Curious if anyone has purchased an A5/S5 and has little ones. I have a 5 and 6 year old, that are more than capable of putting themselves in their own car seats, but I'm wondering how do boosters fit in the back seat??

Long story short...I drove by the dealership on Saturday night (after they had closed) to show my Wife the cars and colors I'm/we're considering to replace our 340i. In my mind it was between the S5 SB and an S4. While the S5 SB was my favorite (the lease, MF stinks), I was trying to convince myself the S4 was the car for us.

Well my Wife saw the S4 and felt it was pretty bland (which I can sort of agree), then the S5 SB (and thought it was nice) and then saw the Coupe and fell in love. Funny she's usually the more practical one of us and she thinks the Coupe will work. I'm super hesitant, because I think having the kids get in and out of the Coupe is going to be a PITA.

There has to be others that have been confronted with this dilemma!?!? Someone talk some sense into me.

For reference, I'm 6'2" and my Wife is 5'10".

    Thanks in Advance!

I do not have any kids so my comment will just be based solely of two factors: Our heights (my wife and I) which are the same as yours and my ownership of a B8.5 S5 coupe. I can tell you now that you will quickly get tired of hauling fast-growing 5 and 6 year old kids in the back seat. A coupe is simply is not a practical choice for your situation. If you are planning on buying a coupe simply because is has a better lease rate including MF and for its looks, I think you are making a big mistake. For you, the SB is best. You have large access to the trunk due to the liftback design and 2 extra doors at the back to make it easy for the kids to get in and out of the car. And, you get the coupe-like looks, too!

Think safety. In an accident (God forbid that you run into one but just saying), it is much easier to get kids out through the back doors vs. having to fold the front seats and take them out. In certain situations, this is almost impossible and time consuming.
Current: 2016 S5 in Sepang Blue with Technik Package.

Thank you for your insight and talking some since into me. :-). Your points make a lot of sense. Thanks again.

I have 3 kids (9, 6, and 2) and recently got the RS5 coupe. It knew that the RS5 SB was coming, but didn't want to wait another year+ get it, especially after waiting for a while already. I like the look of the coupe as well. It hasn't been a problem for me so far, but the kids don't ride with me that often. We have a Q5 to lug the kids around, so I usually only have one, sometimes two in there. There is not much leg room in the back, especially since you and your wife are pretty tall. I'm 5'8" and the wife is 5"3", so we can pull the seats up to make it decent back there for the kids. I can see the cramped back seat becoming more of an issue as the kids get older, although I don't expect our kids to be huge by any means, and one of them can also sit in the front when they get old enough.

It really depends on how often you will need to bring the kids in the coupe. If you have another vehicle that is more practical and plan to use that in most cases, then I think you could make the coupe work. If you plan to have them with you a lot, I think the lack of space and tight access will make it a PITA.

Thank you for your response. Your reasoning about how often the kids are with me was/is my exact hang-up. If they only rode with me occasionally or on the weekends, then it would be "doable", but my Wife and I both work and really try to split school drop-offs/pick-ups in half.

    Thanks again!

I had lease the a5 coupe when my kids were 5 and 4. My son sat behind me and had to keep his legs spread In order to fit. It was fine for a while but then grew old. Couldn’t wait til lease was up and ended up buying an A7. Could t be happier. You’ll be ok at first but it became a pain in the ass.

I don't have kids of my own, but I take my 8 year old relatives skiing almost every weekend. That involves install and removal of the kid seats which is the most annoying part. Once the seats are in, it's fine. The kids are old enough to get in/out on their own. It doesn't require any more effort than an adult passenger. Your situation seems perfectly reasonable for a coupe. I'm also 6'3, and this is in a B8, which may be shorter than the B9.

Plus you get to be in control of the door to prevent it from hitting other things such as walls or cars.

Would go with sport back with kids. The trunk is useless in this car. It’s big. But any large box won’t fit into the trunk opening.

I have a 4 and 8 yo. I’m 6’6”. My S5 SB fits us all fine. It is a bit tighter than my Passat but other than that there’s no comparison.

I have the 8yo in a booster behind me. There’s about 6-8inches between my seat back and the rear seat. My boy is fine. The 4yo is in a car seat and it takes up a lot of room. Once he’s out of the car seat I’ll switch him to behind the drivers seat. We’ll see as they grow. Also haven’t been on any long trips yet, but for around town, school, work commute the car is amazing.

Sportback. Perfect blend of the S4 sedan and S5 coupe. You will regret the coupe bodystyle with 2 kids, but you won't regret the sportback.

I have a coupe (and prefer coupes in general), but I'm a bachelor and pretty much never have more than 1 passenger!
