Car Knocks when shifting from P to D

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Dear all,

    I own audi c6 2011 3.0T, gear is dual clutch 6 speed.

I get a strong knock (Almost like the car wants to jump) and one knock sound only when shifting from Park to Drive position. First couple shifts from P to D are very hard on the car, it gets better if you drive the car for a while. I will try to post a youtube video later today.

It does not happen when I shift to reverse, and the gear shifting while driving (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc gears) are fairly smooth.

My engine mounts were recently changed.

Please advice is anyone experienced similar issue, or what do you think the problem is.

    Thanks !

I've read a number of threads that speak about some noticeable level of clunk in a few scenarios:

    - Shifting from P to D or from R to D
    - Shifting down from 2nd to 1st
    - Decelerating in gear below 1,500 rpm
    - If you don't use the parking brake and the transmission is holding the car while parked

I can feel some of those very very mildly from time to time and from what my research showed, it's fairly common/normal with C6s with the 3.0T/6AT. First thing I'd do is make sure the mounts are good, if they are good make sure you replace the trans fluid and filter because that makes a big difference in how smoothly it operates.

Tcu was updated, engine mount changed recently, audi says fluid is in good conidition.

This is really driving me crazy, the knock is very harsh on cold start but when the car is warm it reduces a lot. Any ideas?

Yes i have experienced most of what you mentioned above. This gear sucks i get some shatter when the car downshift from 4th to 3rd gear.. i did not change the gearbox oil though as audi says it is life time.. will it damage my gear box if i changed it?

You absolutely should replace the fluid and the transmission fluid filter inside the transmission. Nothing is lifetime and for me, replacing the fluid made a noticeable difference in how smooth the transmission shifted (although is was not bad with the old fluid).

One thing I've noticed is in D, there's subtle hesitation when the car is downshifting when you're slowing to a stop, especially going from 2nd to 1st. I tried replicating it in S and it was perfectly smooth so I do not believe most of what you or I are experiencing is a mechanical issue, but simply how the transmission was programmed to operate (and maybe could have used better programming from Audi).

Does anyone have the part number for the snub mount by chance?

For 2011 3.2 L part number is 8E0199339. This is for the snub mount bushing. Not sure if same for other variations of engine. Recently replaced mine.

Get the 034 mount from FCPEuro.com it is made of polyurethane and much better than the OEM one.

I ordered an 034 snub mount, I'm getting subtle jerkiness going on and off throttle and at lower speeds. Looked at the snub mount and it appears to be original and in bad shape.
