    Thoughts on this car?

I know it's hard to predict but trying to get some feedback on this car. Looks like it has been very well maintained and had most/all reliability mods done. Trying to find a fun daily that won't need a ton of work. I know that may be asking alot from this car but feedback is welcome.

Looks like a good car with most the important seals and stuff replaced I would just ask for proof of it being done and also do a car fax just in case

Looks damn good, and I agree with tate182, ask for that stuff, and it's priced well I think! Also shout out to Carlsbad, I bought my S4 from there 7-8 years ago!

K thank you both will do.

With those fixed having been done can a B5 S4 be relatively reliable for 6-8k miles a year?

Haha yeah as much as I really really want a fast fun car right now I don't have the extra money to fix it frequently...

Guess I'll have to get something more boring and reliable.

B5S4 may not be the right car for you at this time.

yeah sadly I have to agree with logic...

Thinking a nice B5 A4 Avant would do nicely instead, at least for now...

    Thanks all!!!

If you keep it stock or maybe a stage 1/2 tune and have it be reliable? Yes it's certainly possible, mine was for 3 years despite being a neglected 286K mile example. However you really should have have a spare $3-5K on hand at all times in case something major fails, examples include blown turbos, clutch work, transmission issues (synchros, shift collars), and anything else that could go wrong on these cars.

If you don't have a couple thousand for your 'Just in Case' B5 S4 fund, I don't recommend buying one no matter how well the PO claims it's been taken care of. If you have a few grand around 'Just in Case', I say go for it since that's a very clean car that seems well taken care of.

My experience pretty much mirrors this. My car was high mileage, and really reliable until I started changing things. If you keep it stage 1, or do downpipes and exhaust and get a stage 2 tune, it'll remain reliable. Beyond that is a crap shoot. Expect to do lots of maintenance and you won't have lots of failures.
