    Help!

Fans kicked on high, wont go off, temp gauge bouncing all from medium to 3/4, to warm enough to pull over and turn it off. I have done the process of elimination, and it seems to be the thermostat. My local shop advised to take it the dealer since it's a very involved job. Fast forward to Audi dealer appointment today, after $150 diagnostic, yes, thermostat......Estimate to fix.....$1500!!! The parts total $100.

Does this sound high? I am in Milwaukee.

    Thanks in advance.

I know you went to the dealer, but what is your build date? There was a TSB campaign involving the thermostat for the following VIN/production range:

    2010-2011 S4
    WAU_G_FL_AA007653 – WAU_G_FL_BA055169
    Production date: June 05, 2009 – October 04, 2010

Not suggesting that the dealer wasn’t doing their due diligence, but it wouldn’t hurt to call and have them double check.

The price seems to be in line with typical dealer labor costs. Maybe check the local forum for a good indie recommendation?

Sorry to hear and good luck!

Find a new shop, it’s not a very involved process.

There are a few DIY threads on the site for a thermostat replacement. If you are somewhat mechanically inclined, can tackle in a day with a few beer breaks built in.
