B8.5 S5 White LED Tail Light Turn Signals

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello!

I am looking to convert the Amber Tail Light Turn Signal Lights on my B8.5 S5 to White LEDs but I can’t seem to find any info on the Bulbs anywhere.

Does anyone know if this is possible and if so has anyone done this?

    Thanks!

Can't say from the technical standpoint but from the legal, you are not supposed to have white turn signals. Don't know what type of inspection is done in Chicago but if they check or a cop is anywhere near your rear when you have the signals on, you are likely to get flagged.

I thought the same thing until I saw a few cars including an Audi with White LED rear turn signals

Just because someone does it, doesn't mean it's legal. Those you've seen have probably been ticketed, or change out the lights for inspections.

In any case, @Jeff V. opened a set of B8.5 tail lights (see link below). He didn't have much luck getting them back together without discoloring the lenses. If you could put it back together, you could replace (solder) the surface mount LEDs with any electrically-comparable LED in any color.

Thanks! So I was mistaken....It was actually red rear turn signals that I saw and after just verifying the laws state that rear facing turn indicators can be amber or red so now it makes sense

I saw this recently on a couple of brand new cars so I didn’t think that they were swapped out

For switching to amber from red, you just need to get the Euro-spec tails, clip a tab, and code the car. No need to disassemble, solder, and glue.

I've replaced the US tail lights with Euro-spec on every Audi I've owned.

Yes. You can get full set (used) at a much better price on eBay and do the coding yourself. There is no wiring to be done, you just need to clip a tab so the plugs will fit.

There are a few guides floating around the internet...some here on AZ.

Ok great! Thanks all! Spending money on E-Code Headlights was well worth it but spending this much on the Euro Tail Lights might not be worth it in my opinion

    Decisions decisions!

I think I spent about $450 on my B8.5 Euro-spec tail lights from eBay.
