best brake pads for high intial bite?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I read a lot of threads about all the ceramic pads
tried them (red stuff) on my last S5
sure they make less brake dust, but I don't like the low initial bite
so I am not going for any type of ceramic pad

I want high initial bite, don't care about brake dust
    what pads should I get?
I have tried EBC green stuff on a former car, and I recall it had more initial bite than the OEM pads on that one

I ordered the stop tech street pads
I figured for around $50 it was worth a shot
I read some reviews and most of them said it had higher bite than stock
Will see how they go and report back

Just installed Hawks HPS 5.0. Low dust but bite seems close to oem if not less. My oem pads were down to less than 5% when I replaced them. I heard akebono are good but they're ceramic.

i will be putting stoptech sport pads on this weekend....

i, too, desire the better cold-bite performance.
i do a ton of city driving.

i will not, however, be able to make a direct comparison in performance as i am going from stock A5 with 320x30 rotors to S5 calipers (performance-wise, the calipers are basically the same as the A5) but with 345x30 slotted high-carbon rotors.

after these pads are broken in, i may try a different brand/type of pad just to get an idea of how much variation there is in cold-bite performance....

......new brakes have been for a while, now.
long enough to have been bedded in for a bit.

before comparison can be made, i need to state the condition of the previous brakes...
the car is a 2011 A5 i purchased a year ago with 52k showing on the odometer.
at that time, the rotors 'looked' to be in decent condition & the acura dealership i got it from had just installed new oem pads.
after a few months of my 10 mile/day city commute combined with occasional other outings & highway miles, the peddle (& braking) began to oscillate & got progressively worse over time.

needless to say, the braking was less than acceptable for a car of this weight & relative performance.

so i went from substandard oem A5 to S5 cals & the stoptech highcarbon rotors (larger diameter) with stoptech sport pads &SS lines on both the front & rear.
now that they are bedded in the overall increase in performance is significant, as one might expect.

cold bite is V good. some of the best i have ever had.
when warmed up, these are working really well.

afa dust, surprisingly, it seems quite low to me.
    definitively less than previous.

what i can compare is the performance of The Wife's oem brakes on her 2011 A4 to my 2011 A5 w/ the S5/stoptech upgrade....

...night & day with regards to stopping ability.
    dust is far lower, too.

i would have been ok with more dust from the stoptechs, cuz i put performance above aesthetics & having to wash dirty wheels frequently....
for now, i am exceptionally pleased with the way this package is performing from all aspects....

    jmho... ymmv.... ; )

Don’t know why anyone would (unless out of necessity) I just put a pair of AutoZone Duralast rear pads on my Audi S5 - will be switching to Hawks 5.0 as soon as they arrive, had a shipping mishap and AutoZone was the only option at the time - but I will say the Duralast are holding up alright and the dust compared to OEM is very low!!

Had these in for about 300 miles now, so broken in
Works great, Similar bite to OEM
Less dust, not like ceramic though
And paid $54 only for them
    Also installed the Meyle rotors
Both work fine and for a total cost for rotors and pads of roughly $200 for fronts, not a bad deal at all
