Spacers are needed because allroad has taller uprights, wheels, wheel wells and most notable longer shocks. The shocks are about 1" longer.
Strut hats change nothing between A6 and allroad ones. They are pretty much identical when it comes to spacing of top of strut to body mount point on chassis - which is the hat's thickness.
If you install A6 suspension in allroad without spacers, you'll install 1" shorter shock/spring causing it to drop, but not by 1", but by about 1.5" in front and 2" in back, ending up with wheels well in the fenders and slammed position.
Why 1.5" front and 2" in back and not 1" though?
This is because the shock doesn't attach to the wheel itself (if it did then it would be 1") but much closer to the pivot point which is the straight lower arm frame bushing. Front shock attachment point is roughly at a bit more than 1/2 the distance from pivot to wheel hub. Rear is almost exact at 1/2 distance. I have the exact number somewhere because I did a lot of research on this back in days.
Use you basic trigonometry skills to figure this out
