    wheel repair options?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was looking around the car and I noticed this. I dont know how or when it happened, but it happened. How much would something like this cost to fix? Any wheel repair shops in the upper NJ area that anyone can recommend? Is there a DIY option?

Wheel repair guys can easily fix that. I'd expect about $125/wheel. A lot of them are mobile and will come to you, and repair on site.

Out of curiosity, how would they go about repairing that? Can they repair curb rash?

Not a bad deal. Paint? Is it at all noticable after repair?

FWIW, I would probably not go the DIY route. I bought my Dad's 2001 TT a few years ago and the wheels were rough. Not much curb damage, but the finish was peeling and flaking. I refinished them myself, and they came out okay. But it would have cost me less than $600 to have them done professionally, and I probably spent over $100 on supplies. My job came out okay, but I would spring for the professional job in the future, especially if it's only one wheel. It's harder when you have to match the other 3 wheels. In my case, they came out slightly different than stock, but because I did all 4, you couldn't tell.

Not if done by a pro. If the wheel isn't painted (most OEM are), then it a polishing process, not paint. That's more expensive. But either way, you will be unlike to even be able to tell where the repair was.

The problem with DIY, is that there is no paint available(that I have found) that actually matches the wheel color exactly. Wurth is OK. Einszett Silber is a little better, but neither is a perfect match.

Exactly. That's why it's tough to DIY one wheel.

If you want a fun update you can take this to any shop that powder coats and get all your wheels redone a different color. I redid all my factory 19 wheels when I bought my car with a graphite color instead of the stock titanium and it changed the look quite nicely. expect to pay $150-$200 per wheel. I'd wait until you scuff another one to make it really worthwhile, lol. I had 3/4 wheels with at least minor curb rash when I picked up my car.

I bought a spare refinished wheel from our local wheels USA location. It cost $250 and I now have a spare to swap in when I curb up another one.

Color match on rims is nearly impossible to get perfect. Check out static coating, they may be in your area. The guys there are super dedicated to their work.
