Used Dealership B9 S5 but no CPO??

    Hello,

Looking at a Gray B9-S5 with 3k miles on the odometer at an Audi dealership. Has Sport Package, Nav package and bigger wheels. Seems like a fair deal (see link below) at $53k. I was a bit surprised it wasn't a CPO car however. Sales guy said it was because the car was so new and such low mileage (3k). They offered to deliver the car to me as it's quite a drive and I have the right to refuse purchase at that time. Anyway, just wanted to get your general thoughts on the car, the deal, and the fact its not a cpo.

That would scare the bejesus out of me - maybe it’s a “lemon-law” buy-back or has had some serious unresolved problems?

It’s you dollar - but I’d walk from this one. YMMV.

I plugged the VIN into the search bar at iseecars.com, and it came back with a clean Carfax, one owner car, three price reductions since it was offered for sale on March 18. Looks like it was a dealer demo, probably.

If you are getting the original 4 year warranty with it, I wouldn't be concerned that it's not a CPO. But just ask to confirm that the dealer itself has been the one and only owner.

Thanks. Yes, it has the original 4 year warranty that comes with the car. They said it was a private party lease return - didn't really specify more. Carfax is clean like you said and they said the did a thorough inspection. Just surprises me they didn't CPO the car if the inspection checked out. That being said, they also have low mileage 2018 SB and it doesn't carry the CPO either. They did mention that it makes their pricing more competitive without the CPO and just having the original factory warranty.

This. CPO is marketing for used cars, which costs the dealership margin. If they can offload a newish car without going through the cost of certifying (which is several hundred $'s per unit), they will. Seeing how new it is, and few miles, few buyers would be heavily influenced by the CPO sticker.

It could very likely be because the car is a loaner. You should ask and if it’s a yes then run.

They have to disclose that type of information and if it ever was used as a rental. OP, I would get it because it's low mileage with the original warranty intact. Just make sure to drive it for another 1-2k miles before modding it.

Audi just changed their CPO program on May 1st and its now 1 year and unlimited miles. They brought the Certification fee down as well, but some cars just don't make sense to certify. I don't certify all my "newer" pre-owned cars either, especially with less than 6K miles or only 6 months of time used on the warranty

Well, I got confirmation that it was leased by a couple who decided they needed a bigger car so they traded it in early. It was definitely not a loaner or rental. So......I take delivery tomorrow :). I'm pretty pumped to finally own my dream car - it's been a long time coming. Got it for $51k and some change - which seems pretty good for 3,600 miles. S Sports Package, Nav, Leather, B&O, etc. Stickered at $65k. Even if I paid a little more than I could have, I think I'll be happy. Looking forward to getting to know this community better. Thanks for your help

Congratulations — Very Happy my advice was wrong! That’s one heck of a savings for a car that’s barely “broken in.”

Best of Luck and, most of all, Enjoy!

Thanks guys. They delivered her at noon today and everything checked out. Took her out for a spin tonight and ........oh my, she is fun. Going to take awhile for me to figure out all the techy stuff, but I'll figure it out eventually.....I think.
