Harnesses going to ecm found retaped

    Hello

Looking for some help from the forum in my situation-
On my A4 2013 @ 67k miles, one fine evening on crank, car shutoff in seconds and simultaneously bunch of error messages started flashing on the dash including battery , transmission etc and honestly I could not keep up with the list. Took it to local indy shop and got it fixed. Invoice said communication codes found between transmission module & ecm. Recurring codes for power supply relay and replaced with 4H0 951 253A.

The concerning part is he said he found harnesses going to ecm have been found retaped by someone previously and me provided a picture. The only time any repair work was done on car was at 24k when dealer said he replaced the injector after my car was towed in. It was because on crank it would emit smoke at exhaustand sounded like it will die in seconds. So I am trying to understand how that happened and what are the future implications? Should I be worried of water seeping in or any other sort of failure?

the water wont seep in to anything vital, the connectors are weather sealed and the wires are coated in rubber, the issue that you seem to be having is that if that was in fact damaged, and repaired, the communication codes are likely from a shitty repair to a damaged harness, and it may require further repair or full replacement of the harness.

Good point. Relating to Indy shop guys's comment , after the repair he suggested me to drive around and see if anything comes up . That is not reassuring at all after a repair. All this is leading me to think I need to replace harnesses leading to ecu. What kind of estimate I should be looking at , any idea? But what continues to bother me is who did that kind of shitty job , considering that only the dealer touched the car , I cannot digest they are the suspects. And even further nothing protects me to go back and question them for what they might have done 2 years ago.
