What made you decide to go with a custom cam with no idea of who’s going to tune it? You’d do the reverse of that, you would think. Buy a cam because a specific tuner wrote a file for it.

These heads are pretty good as is and not many people bother with custom cams outside of the odd Golf R cam and those don’t really do much either.

Do you think a base file might have enough headroom to adapt itself making a custom tune unnecessary or are these cams that wild? Some info on your cam set up might help some of the more tech savvy guys help you.

Check with Malone Tuning. They’re pretty damned talented. They’re well known in the TDI world. But are doing my race car, and another member’s Stage 3, 2.1L build, with complete head work done.

Malone’s tuning me with GOLF R cams. If you’ve gone to the schrick 260/262/264 or whatever they are your gonna need a 100% custom tune. The golf R cam will run on an oem timing maps but will be 10 fold better with a custom tune. I’ve added a bunch more to mine then most these days and Malone is th only one on board with sorting out whatever I’ve thrown under the hood. United wanted the car on site for me that doesn’t work though I believe they are offering snninjector option also. I believe they are still testing using a members car here. Unfortunately they wouldn’t disclose info to what they are using. Likely a GM injector from my research.

Description of build would be plenty helpful. What cam? any head work? chambers been measured? What’s your compression ratio? What turbo?

Thankyou for the replies.. yea i went with the golf r cams. The lift is only .010 higher so i wasnt sure what was scaring people away about the tune.. even though the cams are only .010 higher more air = more fuel = more power.

Sorry for the pretty open ended question. Let me fill you in a little bit. First off, i do all my own work so nothing is spot on perfect but everything is within spec. I like to build cars in A way most others wouldnt.. hard to explain i guess. On to the car! I got the car crazy cheap from a buddy who couldnt get it out of limp mode.. turns out it was the fuel pressure regulator on the rail. So i replaced tbat and put about 15k miles on it before tje balanve shaft locked up. Since then i decided to tear it down and rebuild. heres what ive done so far

-cut the second gear out of balance shaft
    -honed the cylinders
    -Ported head
-IE drop in connecting rods (20mm wp)
    - mahle pistons (stock bore)
    -supertech intake and exhaust valves
    -upgraded hpfp
    -s3 injectors
    -k04 turbo
    -gfb diverter
    -3" test pipe
    -3" downpipe
    -2.5" out to borla mufflers
    -fmic
    -ecs lightweight crank pulley
    -R8 coils
    -cold air intake

Go to Bluewater Performance, or Apikol. Both in the Denver, Colorado area.

    Awesome build.

All I can say is that K04 is going to run out of lung before you run out of air. You’re likely not going to need much of a custom tune for it, to be honest. You could get a custom K04 tune from Malone, but again, you’re going to run out of turbo efficiency before much else.

Nevertheless, It’s always awesome seen people do things their own way. I have absolutely no idea why that won’t be the absolute perfect streetcar. Maybe look into methanol and Torqbyte to control it and your low pressure fuel pump. That might be the only stumbling block at the moment.

KO4 worx for me as I mainly in the city limits. Its going to be extremely hard for any stage 3 BT set up to keep up with me from 0-100 mph around town imo
