    B5S4 Non nose subwoofer?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey everyone I’m fairly new here. I had a 2000 a4 2.8 with bose about a year ago but I recently upgraded to a 2001 s4 without bose. The bass is underwhelming and id like to figure out how to wire in a small subwoofer. I don’t know much of anything about wiring but I’d like to do this myself if possible. I know the stereo system in the b5s are a little different and more complicated than many other cars. Anyway, I’m just looking for ideas, subs, amps, etc. what do I need to make this work? I’m hoping to spend around $150 or less on everything (it doesn’t need to be crazy loud just looking for a nice boost).

If anyone could give me some tips or ideas I’d greatly appreciate it! Or other threads, videos, etc. that might help.

    Thanks!

    Hey welcome to the boards!

If you are not familiar with wiring at all in anyway shape or form you should take a pass... not saying you can’t learn, but it’s much more helpful if you have a friend or family member that knows something about wire a sub to a vehicle.

There are some tricks to wiring the B5, but essentially all subs need 3 things, power, signal, remote.

Plenty of guides and threads on this over the years on Audizine... google search and a bunch come up, plus YouTube videos.... we can’t do all the work :)

Your budget of $150 is low.

Cabling for the job will cost about that no to mention an amp and sub(s).

If cost is an issue and you don’t want Crazy bass id op for a Bass Tube from MDX 8” bass tube. They are self contained and powered so it’s all built in one unit. I ran a 10” bass tube in another vehicle for ages and it just fills in the missing lows.

    Good luck!

you forgot to mention if you have a stock or aftermarket headunit. i agree with justmanson 150 is too cheap, i would almost be curious if you can put in the bose 6.5" rear deck subwoofers and fulfill your needs. not to familiar with the non bose b5's.

I thought about doing that but the problem is that with the non nose cars, there aren’t rear door speakers so the deck actually has Speakers not dedicated subwoofers. So essentially I’d have to lose half of my speakers and I thinks that would throw off the balance too much for it to sound decent. Maybe I’ll just deal with it until I find another b5 later this year haha. Thanks for the ideas!

    For starters go swap in a 200watt D2 A8 4D0 035 225 bose amp for the A4/S4 80watt 8D0 035 225 A.
The 4D0 035 225 has larger cooling fins and will push the carpet out a little bit.
Its plug and play compatible, 5 mins install.
    IIRC I paid $60-80(?) for a 4D0 035 225 amp.

You know that some of the best sound systems have just front speaker and subs. The whole idea is too be able to close your eyes in the car and be able to visualize a stage in front of you... you would be money will spent to invest in decent front speakers along with some bass and upgrade later when you had some extra cash. The under seat subs are another option that is a decent compromise you could loom into for cheap especially if you keep an eye on Craigslist and Facebook

Correct, old car had bose and I was pretty satisfied with it but the new car does not. Thanks for the info though I’m sure my next car (will be another b5 s5) will have bose and I’ll probably decide to upgrade the sound system in that at some point.
