    Exhaust Set up for RS5

Hi all, recently picked up a used 2015 RS5 and wanted to do an exhaust upgrade on it. It came from the factory with the optional sport exhaust but I didn't find it loud enough so I started exploring my options. After seeing the price tags of exhaust systems such as Capristo and Armytrix I started seeking out a cheaper option. I ended up deciding on the X pipe from ECS and have been enjoying that for the last few weeks. I want to go louder, and what I'm looking at next is adding the AWE non res downpipes to the system. My question is has anyone done this pair with the ECS x pipe and AWE dp's?

    Let me know
    Thanks!

I am not answering the question you asked but the one I believe to be the real question. How can you get better sound without breaking the bank? Right? I had that question after I got my RS5. I did a lot of research into the sound you get with X-pipes, H-pipes and true duels. I chose to replace the resonator section with parallel pipes. Recently, some one was selling a used ECS X-pipe so I switched out my parallel pipes for the ECS X-pipe. What i found is the parallel pipes have substantially more sound with no drone. It's like the X-pipe muffles each exhaust pulse and gives a muted but more continuous train of sound. It also tends to drone a bit a highway speeds. I love the true dual sound which has more of a cackle to it. I have the sport exhaust so when I want it quiet, I just tap the shifter back and you can barely hear it. And there is no drone, ever. I will be putting my parallel pipes back into the system.

there is a fine line between loudness and tone. looking forward to hopefully hearing the right balance from your just a few miles down from you.

The AWE exhausts are less expensive than the Caparisto or Armytrix as is JHM's new exhaust or the VelocityAP, the last two being valved. I'd just do it properly as it should be an engineered system from the cats back. If you start piecing together stuff, you don't know what you'll end up with and may kill hp in the process.

I can't imagine how loud the car would be with the non-res downpipes and x-pipe. The AWE Track extreme, which keeps the center muffler was pretty "extreme" in the sound department. It eventually became less than tolerable in a daily driver. All the noise sounds like it's coming from directly below you instead of out the back. And the drone...I guess if it doesn't work out, and you've bought the non-res downpipes, AWE may sell you the rest of the exhaust at a discount. I'd check with them on that though.

Thanks for the quick reply, what did you use for the parallel pipes and could you post some pictures of the set up?

I had an exhaust shop build the pipes. They look very similar to the ECS X-pipe just no connection between the 2 pipes. I had them made of stainless pipe. I may get a chance to take a picture Friday.

I removed the larger resonator with the awe non res dps and have loved my car ever since.

Here is a picture of my pipes next to an ECS X-pipe.

Do not put those parallels back in. They're not even mandrel bent! The crossover also boosts midrange. That ECS pipe will far out perform the parallel pipes.

To my understanding the ECS X pipe was only for sound benefits and had no performance gains.

Crossover pipes will add torque. On the RS5 with OEM rear exhaust any gains are probably negligible. But the homemade pipes are not mandrel bent and are likely more restrictive than OEM.
