New Timing Belt... New 2.8 Cams Correction Factor?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
... I just did a timinng belt (first) then i installed set of 2.8 intake cams... put the motor back together. Started & it idled and ran like crap... eventually it even stalls & dies..( only getting -12 to -14hg Vacuum as well)... I realize theres 1 million things this could be... so process of elimination... I started with main timing .... rechecked with CAM bar and it was off ... I identified it as a bad tensioner out the box... replaced & re timed

... started car and got my Vac back... -18hg.

Car idles ok... but then fluctuates dips & dies

Fuel pressure steady 51psi @ Idle. Measured just before fuel rail

Idles much better and constantly with MAF disconnected (open loop)

My concern before hunting down other causes ...

I want to eliminate the Timing concerns ...whether its the Main timing deviated again (which I doubt at this point)... or 2.8 cam shaft install... (trying to align them and set TDC relative to the Exhaust cam is no fun) but I believe I have them set as reasonable as can be expected.

    All that to ask this..

BLOCK 93 in VCDS (Cam Timing Correction Factor Bank1 & Bank2)

    Factory Spec is 0-4

...i'm getting 1-2 correction factor on Both Banks

With a Brand New Timing Belt & Tensioner and properly installed cams... is CFs of 1-2 normal?

Should I look elsewhere for my issues?

    Thanks guys for any information

I usually see CF bouncing between 0-1 on a recent T-belt job.

Good... so safe to say "if" my timing belt job and or Cam install was done incorrectly... I would be seeing more irratic CF values...

...my idle issues are elsewhere... I can close the book on poor timing

Thanks... my first time doing timing & cams & confidence is shaky...

I did this same thing on my engine. It is normal. Your misfire issues are elsewhere. Did you do the plugs or coils recently? ICM deleted/not deleted? Vacuum steady at negative 18 - 20 mm/hg?

Thanks I sorted it out... actually quite silly embarrassing to say...

I was actually idling with the cone air filter Off... MAF was getting irratic/inconsistent air flow... the cone air filter actually does alot to stabilize air flow across the MAF element. Basically if there was a breeze or gust of wind the idle & A/F would go crazy, even stall the car.. I put the air filter on & all is well...

Problem is with all the timing/cam work I did prior...its easy to overthink things.

    Thanks guys
