ESC, Sport Diff, and TPMS Faults

I have been searching and can not find this combination of faults. All my local shops open Monday. I can't find my code reader. I was cruising 60MPH on the freeway and suddenly cruise shut off and I got "Stability System Fault, Sport Diff Fault, and TPMS Fault". The car drove fine the rest of the way home but cruise doesn't work. All the tire pressures are fine.

Had that happen and took it to the dealership. It was a bad module/sensor, they replaced the sensor. Drove off and the car threw all 3 errors again. Drove back and they replaced the sensor and repaired the electrical short that caused the problem. Problem solved.

Took it to my independent Audi shop this morning and there was a handful of random unrelated sensor issues, but the big one was over voltage, they said it looks like the alternator is over charging and therefore throwing off voltages at all these sensors. So I left it at the shop and I'm awaiting their call to say what they find or do.

So my independent German specialty shop said over-voltage issue, Carmax since it was under warranty still looked at it and said it was a low voltage code probably because I don't drive it (Which I do, 40+ miles daily). So they cleared them, charged it and test drove it and they said its fine. So far the lights arent back but I have an appointment at the independent shop to do a charging system test because I don't believe Carmax.

Agree with your wanting an honest answer to issue. Audi Service is tremendous weak spot at most (not every) dealership. I feel like today’s Income for next quarter earnings release.

There's usually limitations set up in the back end to keep people from spamming pages. Unfortunately, that means some lengthy posts that are legitimate have to be split up. I'd suggest writing it out in word, and just copy/paste a section at a time (if you actually want to take the time to type it out again, of course).

We had to put limitations on a forum I managed because we had several troll users that would put heaps of invisible font in posts above a single sentence, all just to make people waste time scrolling.

Below are the codes I pulled the 2nd time around, my local Audi dealership looked at them, saw the MAP sensor code and tested the sensor with a multi-meter and found it to be bad. Since they replaced the MAP the car has been trouble and code free for the last 2 months. Interesting to note that my independent shop didn't think it was the MAP even with the code because they had never seen a MAP fail and NOT make the car run like snot.

Wow, that's crazy that the MAP would trigger the other faults. Your additional codes look eerily similar to mine (except I'm using Carista) and P0106 is the first one on the list.
Makes some sense though as I just replaced both PCV valves 2 weeks ago. At least gives me a direction to troubleshoot. Probably need a battery anyway as I am also getting the quiescent current and energy management active codes.

    Thanks for the reply.

You are welcome, and good luck!

They way I understand it all the modules throw an ECM code because there was an engine code and everything else went into a sortof limp mode, even though it didn't limit power.

So had some errands to run yesterday, faults were cleared and returned 2 or 3 times in span of about an hour. Found a Bosch MAP sensor at Advance Auto for $40 (Audi gets $99 for same).
Replaced last night, ran the bejesus out of it last night and on the drive in this morning. So far so good....fingers crossed.

Seems very coincidental that this started the day after replacing both PCV valves. There was some oil on on the old sensor, so curious if contamination led to failure.

Looks like a I owe Delasangre a drink

Fingers crossed that was it for you. My car lit up like a Christmas Tree last night, codes point to bad Adaptive Steering Module. Steering wheel even cocked to the right to drive straight. Super weird. I got home and saved the log then cleared the codes after cycling the ignition, drove down to the convenience store and it didn't come back. Praying it was a fluke but I have a bad feeling about this...

Well hell! Faults are back !!*@#&% Still have MAP sensor code that looks to be the initiating event. Possibly the wiring connector? It seems to be a little loose when connected, not the usual snug fit.

How did you end up ? My 2013 is doing same thing. They changed my map sensor but lights came back car runs fine sans adaptive cc and abs systems. I’ve had two smaller town Audi dealers look at it to no avail. I have brought it back to Dallas has appointment Monday with experienced Audi guy hopefully get it sorted. Very disconcerting and a little disappointed in Audi’s ability to service cars they sell at least in Central Illinois ( laughing) ok it is John Deere territory. If you’d please tell me how your car was fixed it might help us sort mine. Thanks and Happy Holidays.,Roger

Mine was the map sensor. That solved this problem but my RS5 has been a nightmare. One problem after the other. Camshaft adjustment solenoid, and I'm like 10 hours of diagnosing deep into this stupid steering problem and my Audi dealership can't make heads or tails of it. I'm getting ready to sell this POS.

Had a similar issue with my B8, ECU wouldn't communicate with VCDS and the radiator fan was activated at high speed. Battery would die within 10 minutes trying to scan for codes. One afternoon in December I went to start the car and CEL popped up and car made a loud "backfire" upon cold start... Shortly after it disappeared. Drove the car for 10 minutes and came back home and went to start the car again and that's when I got all the same error codes except I had parking brake malfunction along with EPC light and few other fault codes... Not to mention the car wouldn't start.

Aside from this issue car has been fine with exception of mistaken service on sport differential but Shop readily accepted their error. I had intended to hold car as last of an era but with the gremlins showing up in electrical I’ve removed the Audi rings looking for Jaguar badge stripped back temp and fuel gauge for Smith Electric logo haven’t found any but damn sure seems to b acting English which would be no bueno. Car goes to yet another Audi shop Monday I’ll report back. So far I’m a map sensor, new battery, into fixing it to still be no closer. As car sits upon start Abs chime, tpms, sport differential lights activate in that sequence. More film at 11

Next step..., changed ECU weÂ’ll see if that solves the throwing code issue. Not particularly happy at changing an ECU but I suppose after 56,000 miles something came unattached. See if it still throws codes over next few days.

I had the exact same thing happen to my 2013 RS5. Twice. The second time the dealer reflashed something and it’s been about a year since with no issues. At one point they blamed the tires... I don’t think they know what it is but I think we are all coming to the conclusion it’s electrical and not a hardware fault with the sport diff, which is nice at least!

At what point and how does Audi realize this is a common issue and proactively try’s to actually fix it?

    Final resolution

My final resolution was to replace ECU that seems to have resolved the throwing code problem. ECU had broken soldering points holding circuit boards. I’m not sure I would extrapolate that to apply to all ECU’s for the RS5 I’m guessing it’s a Bosch Unit so Audi just receives shipments of them.

Car is throwing codes again changing the ECU worked for about a week. So now I’m out a map sensor purchase and install, change the ECU plus the install and apparently no closer to a solution. Car is back at Audi Dealer and they appear stumped. Very disconcerting to have them tell you “ well we just don’t know “

And that's why I just sold my RS5 and walked away... I hope they figure it out but from everything I've had to fix it seems these are electrical gremlin cars.

Do you have adaptive cruise midam96? How bout you Delasangre? Either car been in an accident? Curious if the adaptive cruise is not calibrated correctly or the sensor is damaged.

Mine did but it was fine, they checked the calibration and it was ok. They said my car needed a steering rack but they couldn't guarantee that was the cause of this CEL problem

I’m about fed up as well if Audi of America doesn’t have some information to help solve the issues. I’m reaching out to them Monday. The people who have My rs5 n Chicago have been excellent to work with but nevertheless they are scratching their heads and have no real plan other than change one thing at time.

I would maybe try to have them contact a U.S. National-level master tech who specializes in RS cars. I know they're out there. If you have the adaptive cruise, you have the dynamic steering rack. Twice as complicated as the regular steering rack.

Take a multimeter to the battery. Most of those modukes require battery voltage checks and when batteries start to go bad they trip multiple module trouble codes. Itll look like a cristmas tree. Check battery voltage.
