    Air Conditioner stopped working

    Over the past few weeks I've noticed a howling noise when I first turn on my AC. The noice would eventually go away once the unit was operating for a while. Fast forward to yesterday, I turned on the unit and though I could hear the compressor going, I didn't have any air blowing into the cabin. I'm wondering if the blower motor is shot? In researching the problem some links point to replacing the blower motor resister while other's point to replacing the blower motor. I'm thinking that howling noice may have been generated by the blower motor being stuck in place...hence it's eventual failure. That said, before I start throwing parts at it, thought I'd ask the A6 masses for their opinions...thoughts?

    I would guess (and that’s what it is) that the blower motor failed. Howling noise leads me to that. If the blower just suddenly stopped working with no other indications, then I would lean towards resistor.

    Oddly enough it seems to be functioning again and the howling noice has disappeared (for now).

    Like was said above, the noise certainly points to the blower's bearings going bad and seizing at times.

    FYI- If it were the resistor, the fan would still work if you turn it up to full blast. A resistor is in essence a volume knob, regulating output of whatever it's hooked up to. It's only "resisting" when it's at a setting below "full blast". At full blast it just acts as a connector in the circuit (even when malfunctioning... I've yet to see a resistor go bad that did not work at full blast).
