    Sudden shake with Flashing CEL

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have a 2011 A5 2.0T Quattro that I bought a year ago from the dealer. Car has been running fine up to a couple months ago and today. The problem I've been facing doesn't always happen but is bothersome.

This has been the 4th time (with a couple months in between) in which my car starts to shake out of no where when I'm driving and the CEL flashes a few times before it goes away and the car normalizes. I checked for codes but nothing seems to show up and I think it's because the light goes away right away. The first time it happened I changed the spark plugs and thought that was the fix since it hadn't happened for a while. Now i thought it may have been dirty injectors so I added some fuel system cleaner but it happened again but this time the shaking was slow and gradually got a bit stronger until it normalized again which was a couple seconds later. I've talked to a few people and they tell me it could be either a bad camshaft sensor or a crankshaft sensor. I have no idea what it could be so I'm here to ask for some advice/guidance to know what it could be or where to start looking.

If I added this to the wrong board I apologize in advance

if you know someone close with a VCDS cable i would have them check the codes. if you use just a handheld scanner it might not pull up the saved or stored codes. then go from there. it could be a lot of things that can cause misfires or uneven idle. but good luck

Flashing CEL means you’re having misfires. Probably not a bad idea to go for new coil packs depending on your mileage.

I was just looking into that. I might go ahead and buy some and test my luck with that. Hopefully that is the issue. Thanks for the help

If it's flashing, it's also telling you not to continue driving the car. Basically, you can damage the catalytic converters if you continue to drive a car with the engine light flashing.

Thing is it flashes right when I'm about to get home or where I'm supposed to be at and then it stops and won't happen again for a while. I'm hoping once I get new coil packs the issue doesn't continue.
