New to the S4 Modding, could use some advice.

Just got my dream 2015 S4 and am looking to do the following to start (its simple stuff)

    Front Grille from - http://www.modbargains.com/Black-Chr...-B85-A4-S4.htm
    Intake - http://www.modbargains.com/awe-tunin...-s4-s5-30t.htm
    Exhaust- http://www.modbargains.com/awe-tunin...audi-b8-s4.htm
    Possible Rims- http://www.modbargains.com/VMR-V710-...Audi-5x112.htm

If anyone has better suggestions for rims under 1k if possible that would be awesome. Also with the Front Grille, they said custom mount S4 badging would be required since they dont provide it on that grille. Anyone know of one that may work with it?

Also Future projects would be a tune and pulley etc. I have way more reading and getting used to the car first.

Thanks everyone for any tips or links to stuff I may like.

    -James

As far as grills , I love the eBay RS grills with the Quattro Logo. I personally bought it and recommend it .

Agreed on the grille....as far as attaching the badge, contact this member, he makes a clip but he will need to know what grille you ultimately decide on https://www.audizine.com/forum/membe...889-maty360414

Awe touring exhaust if you prefer to keep your hearing in check. Track exhaust will be way loud! But I'd put that money towards a Stage 2 tune!

Wheels not rims. This has to stop.

Look for something used and flow formed as sticking with heavy wheels like the v710 is meh. Search on that for correct size I'd even say wait till you have read and looked around more.

As for the awe intake no opinion as most run roceuro(avoid), ecs, usp, or cts ones or just keep stock box and maybe mod it.(search for the mod)
Id do ie intake or ecs.

Exhaust- do whatever you like sound of as it adds no gains to car. Awe touring is most popular, I prefer the miltek sound tho.

For grille check out stone carbon on eBay he sells good quality grilles like the Quattro one above. And a user here sells adapters for the s4 badge. I prefer the oem grille personally.

    Haha beat me to it.

How about you skip the over priced exhaust, go custom, and use that extra $1k you just saved for a tune right away.

I kinda of agree too , 1800 for Something that doesn’t give you any performance gain. Do yourself a ex pipes an some tips and call it a day. It will have a nice rumble to it. And with the rest of your cash stage up .

wow just a little uptight about this? I’m nearing late 40’s and as long as I can remember we simply called them “rims” ever since I was a kid. Yes I understand that the outer lip portion is “the rim”, but why does it bother you so much? There’s a term and its called slang. Question do you always use the word tissue or do you simply say “can I have a Kleenex?” Technically it’s a tissue...

Lol. I hate lots of things people will never stop saying. Like using "their" instead of "they're", or "could of" instead of "could have". But I can always call them out on it whether it helps or not. Haha

we need to get ahead of it so it doesnt become acceptable like windshield banners seem to have done. If it upsets a few 2017/18 members so be it.

Good luck getting ahead of it, seems like my entire school calls cars whips now and everyone loves to say "I got the foreign or I got a foreign whip" it sounds so dumb hearing it in person. Also for the owner of the thread I would agree with others about going with the AWE touring, if not loud enough non resonated down pipes. However if you're not looking to spend that kind of money on the exhaust there are a lot cheaper options on the forums, many people have done different things with their exhaust and they sound really good, search in the forums for custom exhaust or something similar to that. Spend that extra money you saved on a tune if you go that route! Also definitely get a new intake, I recommend Roc Euro or APR intake. Roc Euro will take probably a month or two to get to you but if you're looking for the loudest SC whine Roc Euro is the way to go.

Its funny because I always use the term wheels when referring to just that. But normally I am talking to people who use the term Rims and when I say wheels they are like "but you already have nice ones".. I forgot I am among car people now.

This cannot be stated enough. Sort of in the same category as a "motor," "rear fender" or "front quarter panel" -- but much worse.

I’d go with the touring instead of the track exhaust. I like really loud things, but the track exhaust is very droney from 2-3k RPM.

Welcome to the B8 community. I’d say look into the clear corner reflectors of you’re brave enough to open the headlight housing. I’d also strongly advise against the track exhaust unless your goal is to be loud like a Honda. If you want more SC whine I’d suggest an open air box like the on from Integrated Engineering. It probably has a higher IAT but that only matters if you’re racing the car.

New to the S4 Modding, could use some advice.

Get the RS bumper conversion for a little more. It has the grill and looks much more natural/clean than retrofit. My mind set when modding was wait to buy the best. If you need to save a little longer then do it, I see so many rush to buy the cheapest version of something for these cars. I know we all view it different but every time I use discipline and wait...I’m very happy I did. When I first bought the car I had a quick list of mods I wanted based on reading. Fast forward 5-6months and that list 100% changed. The more you read you will find the right mods vs most advertised. In the end congrats on the Audi!

    I bought foundational mods first:
1st: Winter & Summer tires, Sways, Links, AMS Cooler, Inserts, Alu Kreuz and Control arm Brace
2nd: Carbon cleaning TB and Intake Port, Summer Wheels, RS4 bumper conversion, Milltek exhaust, ECS Intake, Braking should be here too but didn’t and should have
3rd: Stage 2 ECU/TCU, SC Pulley, New Plugs correctly gapped and new coils.
4th: haven’t got here yet but prob Dual Pulley, Water/Meth and E85 tune w/ P3 gauge and Ethanol sensor.

Once I added more power the car was ready to handle it vs overpowering stock items. I’m sure some might comment on my order of purchases but this seemed like the logical approach to a fast car that doesn’t suffer while going fast. So many say they don’t drive aggressively but at the same time their car is tuned...tuning equals aggressive don’t fool yourself lol.

Lastly, sorry long post, I waited for sales and relentlessly searched classifieds to find the parts I wanted without paying full retail. Keep an eye out for group buys too, I jumped on the EPL w/ AMS GB and saved a ton there. There are vendors on AZ that will work with you too...take no price at face value, with a little work and patience you will better your buck. Good luck and believe me it seemed overwhelming but small bites gets you to the car you want.

Couldn’t have said it better myself! I went HAM with the modding over the past 3 years and, like you’ve stated, a good majority of the parts were purchased either on sale, used/very good condition, group buy, etc. It will definitely save you hundreds, if not thousands once you start adding it up. Researching and patience are key.

Do you mind linking me to some of the ones you got? Still new to the car mod scene since I just switched over from modding my truck.

You really don't need a front sway, try just the rear but I would do that third in order of suspension:

    3) https://store.034motorsport.com/034m...a5-s5-rs5.html

    This is a great piece:

    2) https://www.ecodetuning.com/EC0101-0...tabilizer.html

But do this one before the ALU Kreuz

    1) https://eurozonetuning.com/products/...4-s4-a5-s5-rs5

    As far as a tune:

    https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...ctane-amp-more!

You can go Stage 1 with just a software flash you can do at home. Stage 2 requires a pulley installed. You can find a pre-owned tune in the classifieds

Get front and rear bars. Many people who say "..you only need the rear bar.." have never tried both. The factory endlinks (plastic body & rubber bushings) are fine, rather than expensive all-metal endlinks that wear-out and clunk after a year. Get the MOOG endlinks (metal body and polyurethane bushings) if you want a little better performance versus the factory endlinks.

And when you get tired of the black brake dust, install Akebono ceramic pads.

In my opinion (only based on my engineering judgement) the Alu Kreuz has very little benefit compared to what it costs.....the factory lower subframe/X-Brace and frame-rails are not exactly flimsy....the $160 CR-15 upper-brace yields more improvement in chassis rigidity.

Agreed with the endlinks. You can stay stock if still new , then get Moog.

I'd still suggest for the OP a rear sway bar first to see how you like the feel and if it gives you the result you are looking for. It did for me. As stated, I will never know what I am missing without a front but I am not looking for more. It achieved what I was looking for to reduce understeer. A bigger front would only increase it, again.

Re: MOOG endlinks...maybe a really stupid question but why are the Moog endlinks so cheap, so cheap looking, and don't look at all like other endlinks (ie: 034) that sell for much more. Moog website has them for 30 bucks for the rear endlinks. Is that literally all you need (plus sway bar obv) or am I missing some other part/thinking about this way too much lol?
    Thanks

So you're another person claiming that the AK is overstated. I'm slapping on the CR15 myself before i blow a ton of money (for what it is, seriously) on the AK... People swear by it though. wish i had a buddy with the same car bone stock with only AK added to try lol

I installed front and rear USS bars. I set them to stiff in the rear and soft in the front. I never ran just rear but I can say my setup just keeps digging in the corners, not to mention limiting pull/body roll. You can certainly feel the difference and the ride is still very comfortable imo. I guess if you are pushing the car to the point it’s breaking loose then maybe rear is all you want. I’ve taken 25mph on ramps at 50-60mph and felt very comfortable. I don’t track so can’t speak to that.

Niche makes pretty nice wheels like the Targa and Misano. I'm partial to the Misanos myself, they both can be had for under 1000 on a few sites.

Any updates on progress? Always like to see which way people go with their setups. 1000 ways to do it...how did you? Lol

You can go Stage 1 with just a software flash you can do at home. Stage 2 requires a pulley installed. You can find a pre-owned tune in the classifieds
Does that front strut tower brace make the ride any harsher?

It does make it a little stiffer but it helps in other ways.

I agree with custom on the exhaust. You can get a sweet sound for a couple hundred bucks.

Hey man! I just saw this. For the front bumper, I painted the front grille and fog light mesh auto paint black and used 2k clear coat. While the bumper was off I also tinted the fog lights. Looks amazing and I get tons of compliments. The chrome accents make the car look much wider.
