Post Turbo Replacement Value Check - 2013 S6

    Background here:

    https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...goes-the-turbo

As I said in the (infamous?) thread above, I was in the process of looking at an alternative to the S6 when it ate its turbos. My wife and I have made some progress on the reshuffle of the "fleet". She is picking up her new 2018 VW GTI Saturday for her new commuter car.

This leaves us with at least 1 too many cars. I have been looking at a new Q7 as a replacement to the current Ford Explorer for my daily. I am taking the S6 to the dealer tonight to have them appraise it as part of a possible 2 for 1 trade (Explorer and S6 for the Q7).

Alternatively, I am considering selling the S6 privately, depending on the trade value. Edmunds give a trade value of about $30k and I expect that I can get more selling it myself (even given the 6.75% sales tax offset with a trade in Ohio).

Where do you guys think a 2013 S6 with brand new turbos, just under 50k miles is in value?

    Options on the car:

    S6 Prestige

    Cold Weather Package
    Driver Assistance Package
    LED headlights -
    20" 5-parallel spoke wheels
20" Winter Wheels - Audi OEM with Blizzak performance tires <--- may include these if the buyer wants them
    Carbon Atlas Inlays
    Rear Side Airbags
    Black Headliner

Color is Phantom Black Pearl Effect
Black sport seats with Diamond Stitching

The car will need brakes soon. I have the parts (OEM rotors and Disc Italia ceramic pads, sensors, dampers, etc) for all 4 corners. If I trade the car in, I will sell the parts here at a discount from what I paid AudiParts. If not, I would include the parts in the sale as well.

    Thoughts appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Derek

Mid $30's for a private sale is my guess.

Would agree with the mid $30k’s...think the issue is not a lot of casual buyers will understand the impact of having the new turbos done, and then you don’t want to go into an explanation of why its valuable for fear of scaring them off. An enthusiast on a site like this will probably give you the most value...

On a side note, I would be very interested in your brake package!

If I trade it in, I will let you know (and post an ad here).

Have the brakes done and I think you can fetch 40k through a private sale. As long as you have all service records (especially for hard to each replacements like pcv) on you then I don't think it will scare anyone away. It's an almost fully loaded car. I am curious as to what the dealer will offer you for a trade in.

    Mid to high 20's trade-in.

Low to mid 30's private sale.

Dealer offered $26.5k for a trade on a new Q7. I am probably going to put the new brakes on it and list it for sale privately and see what happens.

    Thanks for the insight.

The shame about that is they will pay you $26,000 and post it for sale for $40,000.

Ended up getting $32k for it on trade toward a new Q7 (after I install the front brakes). This works out to just over $34k for a private party once the sales tax offset for a trade is figured in. I decided that was close enough to avoid the hassles of a private sale.

Dealer did have some Manheim data showing a BIG drop in value on these in the past 6 months. I wonder if the blown turbo issue is starting to seriously affect values?

Trade in value is going to be in the mid to high 20's but not over $30,000 with those miles -just a guess relative to retail prices I'm seeing.

I constantly watch prices on all the cars I like, and the S6 is typically $32,000 - $35,000 retail with similar miles depending on condition, location, and options. Because the S6 isn't rare, and is the best bang for your buck really for a performance AWD sedan, that bank for your buck means the resale is a little lower. Good for buyers, bad for trades. They aren't bad, I'm just saying the S6 doesn't command what the S7, and RS cars to generally. I've also see in the last 6 month or so, the 2013-2014 Audi took a hit. I know this because I found a clean RS7 for $56,000 and bought it.

No way an S6 with those miles is going to fetch $40,000 right now privately or by a dealer. I think you'd be better off getting a new S6, and trading in your old S6 on it! But you're probably ready for something else......

For SUV's don't count out the Jeep SRT 2014+. They have great resale value, are fast, great looking, and have great CPO warranty extensions.

Probably has more to do with the next generation of the A6 coming out later this year and the S6 next year

I almost went with the SRT Jeep but decided we needed a 3rd row. After checking out the SRT Durango, decided that I did not "need" another 400+ HP car and went with a new Q7 for family hauling duty. Still have the 911 turbo for go-fast duty.

Individual trade in deals aren't always an accurate represenation of the trade in market as a whole. For example, the dealer may have given him more for his trade but wouldn't budge on the Q7. Whereas perhaps another dealer would have discounted the Q7 an additional $5K but only give him $27K in trade for his S6 (the end result would be the same).
