    Which Ross-Tech should I get

    Hello All,

Ok so I learned the lesson. I bought and am returning a cheaper code scanner that they say worked with Ross-Tech. So I doubt I will need the top of the line Pro scanner, even though it would be cool to have but a bit out of the price range right now. I only need it for my car, so would the regular plug in scanner be a good choice. I want to do most of the normal changes I read about on the tech area link as well as diagnostics. Adjust headlight, turn off certain chimes, schedule maintenance reset, clear codes, etc. thanks for any and all advice.

The enthusiast versions are limited to 3 or 10 VINS only, that’s the only difference. I have the 3 VIN and have used it many many times to fix and adjust things.

I own one of the 3-VIN HEX-V2's and I think it's a superior product to the old HEX+CAN's. They made a number of physical improvements: better LED indicator, removable USB cord, and better materials. Also, it's faster...an autoscan with the HEX+CAN on my S5 takes over 4 minutes; with the HEX-V2, about 2 minutes. It's a better interface, and at 2 bills for the 3-VIN, it's a great deal. For your modest needs, I don't think the HEX+CAN's unlimited VINs would be worth the $300+ cost.

Here's a tip if you haven't ordered one yet: I bought mine from Europa Parts because they offer free shipping; Ross-Tech doesn't. Registration was a breeze even though I didn't order directly from Ross-Tech. Europa is a licensed distributor.

You can always upgrade to a unlimited VIN version of you need to in the future.

Thanks everyone, and a great tip. Appreciate it. I haven't bought it yet. I'll purchase one next week. Im trying to get over the fact someone around my area stole my Audi's car cover the other night. Bummer

I hate this what ross tech is doing now, not only do you pay for the hardware, you pay for the license.

Congrats on buying the HEX-V2! When it arrives, you'll need to register the dongle with Ross-Tech.

First, download and install their free software on the laptop that you're going to use. Get it here: http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/download/

Then, follow the instructions in their HEX-V2 registration video: http://forums.ross-tech.com/showthread.php?8824

I strongly suggest that you watch the other video in that thread and check for firmware updates before using your new VCDS.

    Happy coding!
