Post Audi A4 B8 proximity sensors not working.

I've bought my a4 used a month ago, used the door sensors to lock it the first day I brought it home and has never worked since. I've tried all doors several times but neither locking or unlocking worked unless I pressed the buttons on the key fob. I ran my Vag Com but no faults were found besides something about open or short circuit ground for the luggage compartment light. Could the light really cause the whole system to not work? is there any way to reset the proximity sensor or that system?

This may seem like a silly question, but are you positive you have it? I know that all A4’s regardless if they have it, will have the squares in the handles. Does your car have push button start? It seems odd that it only worked once, and never again with no stored faults.

I don’t have push button to start. I’m positive, all four doors have the color painted square.
Even the Tech at the dealership was puzzled.
I’m curious if my badges i use for the gym and to get into the building for work confused the computer and resulting it to be disabled.

I did somw troubleshooting, i can open the boot with the remote and switch on thw driver side door but not by pressing the button on the exterior like you would expect. Only issue is, is it the handle that’s not working? Since i can open 2 of the 3 possible ways.

the square is not indicative of proximity sensors, the advanced key is, which you likely dont have, all a4s have that square on the handle, its for the key

Yeh your right, had to look at it again, at any rate, i have the exact same handle, car was never equipped for proximity unlock. i suppose you could check to see if the option is enabled in vagcom, if they replaced the key at one point, possible they replaced it with the wrong key

I just recently began using vagcom, how would I check for that option?

I'm also curious, is there a difference between a standard audi key and the convenience or advance key?

When the key battery starts to go dead the door handle sensors can begin to not work because it doesn't pick up the signal. Try changing the key battery.

Isn’t it pretty indicative if he doesn’t have push button start, he doesn’t have proximity key? Like mentioned previously, all cars have the squares in the handles whether or not they have advanced key or not.

I dont know if there is any physical difference in the key size but i know that the advanced key is what allows for push button start and the proximity doors, if you dont have the push button start its likely you dont have either. I am not sure which module you would have to look at to see if the feature is enabled, i own a OBDeleven tool not VCDS.

Thanks for the reply, it’s a bummer not having the functionality of the door sensors.

This. Part of the proximity key system is push button start.

Love beating a dead horse here, is this the case on the S4 cars as well? I don't seem to have the push button start and no functionality out of the proximity switches. So, I suppose I don't have that option?

Yup this was my exact issue. Locking door from the button got harder and harder and eventually stopped working altogether.
About 2 weeks later i got the low battery message. Changed battery and bang everything worked great again.
Yes i have push button start, door handle sensors and proximity sensors
