    Squeaky clutch/throw out bearing

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I started noticing a squeal/squeak when letting off of the clutch that goes away once the pp fully engaged. Kinda sounds like a squeaky belt also.. car has clutch fan delete with OEM belt.. I'm just curious if you experienced folks would say this is a sign of the TB failing soon or anything I should worry about fixing, or just leave it as is.
Clutch set up is AMD stage 1 with B7 rs4 PP and has a few thousand miles on it..

I thought I read somewhere this was an issue with AMD clutches but I may be misremembering. In any case, sounds like a TOB to me. Just to be thorough, you’re not running ATE super blue brake fluid, right?

Yeah that was me from one of the clutch threads recently that was asking others about their amds squealing. I'll find the link and post it here. The summary of the posts was that both of my amd clutches (stage 3 and stage 3+) squeal on engagement. About 5 other people chimed in and said theirs do the same.

Edit: found the thread. And only 2 others admitted to theirs doing the same. I remember more talking about it. Perhaps in another thread somewhere.

Nope only run Audi fluids! Thanks for the input. I assume it's not much of an issue as everything is functioning as advertised..

Did you fellas come to any conclusion or have any failures? Anyone talk to Jason? Lol...

I can only think of it being the throw out bearing squealing untill fully seated and I can only hear it when I give barely any gas..

I had amd 3+ in my S6. The squeal is so bad it makes me fear heading a recommendation for my rs6.

Absolute fucking nightmare of a sound.

My 3+ does it right at the engagement point.

It's hard to describe... but it kinda sounds like the low frequency 'squeal' bicycle brakes make as your come to a stop. Not significant enough for me to really worry about.

This is my experience with mine. It actually is embarrassing to drive. It holds all the power I've made (enough to propel the car to 2.8 fats) but the squeal ruins an otherwise perfect clutch.

That’s totally it. Chirp long squealllllll.

Hey dude what’s up with your car. Thought you got a new clutch. Yeah. Well it’s a “heavy clutch”.

That’s what I ended up telling people. Holds fine. Still gives me nightmares.

Buddy has a stage 4 and no squeal....

It's the clutch friction material. I initially thought it was the throw out bearing, so I replaced it with a sachs oe one. The sound persisted, so I spoke with Mike and Jason, they suspected the pilot bearing, so I pulled the motor again and replaced that. No dice. That was all on my amd stage 3.

Was going to just live with it, but decided to swap it out for a new ttv flywheel and oe rs4 clutch. No noise with that setup, so I figured the something was wrong with the old setup, so I ordered a new stage 3+ from amd. Put that in, and tadah! The noise came back as the clutch was broken in. It's worse on the stage 3+ than the 3 was.

Hmmm... maybe mine is going to get worse. Lol.

You guys seem pretty annoyed. So fine mine has been minor.

I'll try to get a vid if I bring it out this weekend.

It's so odd to me that it would be the friction material..

It's not any different than brake pads squealing on your rotor. Certain compounds are more susceptible than others.

Recording sounds can be tricky, but I'll try to get a video of mine too.

Edit: me leaving my driveway, it can be significantly worse than that if I try to make it. That's just how it sounds if you drive it like you can't hear it. Which unfortunately, is not how I drive it anymore.

Yeah I would've opted for a different set up if I had known lol. I only went with that because Jason agreed to remote tune my car which didn't end up happening

My AMD stage 3+ squeals bad on engagement. I hate it... but too lazy to pull the trans to replace it...

What kind of mileage do you all have on your AMD Clutches?

    When did the squeal start?

Mine has about 15k or so, started doing it after about 150 miles, and has progressed to be louder and louder until about 1k. It's stayed pretty consistent from there til now.

    That sucks.

Are you sure it's the clutch and not the CMC?

It's hard to tell from the sound in that video.

I think I'm just hoping it's something else because I have one that I was about to install. lol

I don't know if I'm going to use it now. Might get rid of it and buy something else.

I bought it like 3 years ago in the group buy, but I didn't want to wait for them to be made so I went ahead and got an old style JHM B5 RS4 based one so I could get the car back on the road. I kept the AMD clutch because I knew I would need it eventually. The shitty plastic SAC mechanism went out on the JHM a few months back so I was planning on putting in the AMD, but I'm not so sure now.

edit: I just emailed AMD about it. I'll let you guys know what they say.
