    Stoptech rotor size question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I currently have Stoptech ST-60 up front with 380mm rotors. I track the car often and it would really be cheaper to use 18" wheels and the appropriate size tires. There's not a whole lot of R compounds out there in 19" fitment. I can't fit an 18" wheel over the 380mm rotors so I'm wondering if I can just change out the rotors for 355mm when the current ones wear out. Will I have to change any other parts, like the calipers to use 355mm rotors?

I was also thinking about doing the same thing.
You would need new rotors and caliper brackets. The calipers can be reused
Not a crazy amount of money but enough..

I would go to the stop tech website, they have the blueprint/template of the size/shape of the ST-40 and ST-60 brake pads. I had the ST-40 on my S3 and it had the two piece rotors(355mm) and I was able to clear aftermarket 18" wheels. I personally think the 380mm are overkill on the S3 but that is just an opinion.

You mentioned "had" the st-40 setup. did you move to another brake setup? How was the st-40?

You would need to change the Rotors and Caliper Bracket, the part that attaches to the Knuckle. Go to https://www.zeckhausen.com/ they carry Stop tech parts, you will most likely need to call them to secure the correct brackets, since you track the track go slotted rotors.

Completely agree. The 355 surface is plenty it is the clamping Force over the stock crappy calipers that is needed

Yes, I had the ST-40. Sold them because I ordered a RS3 but as far is the brakes I loved them.

You might be better off selling the ST60 kit and getting a 355mm kit. I run the 355mm ST40 kit and it's plenty sufficient for even hard track use, plus pads are super cheap and compounds are plentiful because it is a common Porsche size.

Otherwise, it's just a different bracket and rotor size (you'll need new hats too), except that the brackets can be a bit difficult to source and are expensive (well over $500), as Stoptech or Brembo don't want you utilizing brakes on something it wasn't originally designed for, even if the kits are identical.

I found this thread while researching fit for a BBK I purchased recently. I can confirm (bc I installed yesterday) that st-60 380mm fit under 18” team dynamics wheels.

I have ST40 w/ 332mm rotors and am plenty happy with the performance. They clear a8" rims well. I dd with 18x8.5 et45 Advan TC-4 and track/autox with 18x8 et35 OZ Superleggera. With a good set of pads for the track I see no need for larger diameter rotors, even 355mm seem large imho. Most pro drivers prefer the 332mm to safe weight but has same performance.
