    Intermittent no-start

Out of 20 times, my allroad with 2.7 BEL would not start once. It would start 19 times perfectly, cold or warm, then on the 20th attempt just do nothing, all lights on cluster would come up, but no solenoid clicking, no starter engaging at all. Assumed clutch switch, changed it. No issues for two weeks, yesterday would not start again, had to ask coworkers to push it to start, thankfully I have manual transmission. I found OEM starter on sale and ordered it, just in case, always can return.. Any ideas? Ignition switch, starter relay, what else and how to check?

I also have this... Very intermittent will almost always start if I hold the key in start position for a while..will suddenly just start turning over. Been kinda dealing with it for and year. I also have 6mt so Im not really worried right now.
Pls update if the starter solved

On my 2001 A6 2.7T 6 speed, occasionally it won't turn over, but if I just press on the clutch pedal all the way down a few times, it will then turn over fine, so I know that I eventually need to probably adjust or maybe even replace the clutch switch, but I just haven't bothered doing it yet. When you've had the issue with the car not trying to start, have you pressed the clutch all the way down a few times to see if that helps? As far as the clutch switch, I've heard that it can be bypassed, but then you just need to be a little careful if you do that. - Jim

I was thinking exactly what you thinking about switch, even though pressing pedal many times very hard did not make a slightest difference. So I bought expensive switch from the dealership (someone warned me to stay away from aftermarket switches), and replaced perfectly good clutch switch with the brand new one. Drove happily for a week before AR refused to start again under most embarrassing circumstances. Let me see if I can find my old switch, maybe you could use it.
