    Possible move to RS5

    Good Morning,

I am new to the forum and possibly new to the Audi RS5. I am currently in an 06 Carrera 997S. I have been looking at the 13 or 14 model year RS5 and wanted to get some insight.
Cosmetically is there a big difference between the two years? Also is there any performance differences as well? I have not been able to see both side by side, but it appears there is slight cosmetic changes between the two years.

Im 6'2" and read someplace the cabin can be tight for taller people. I have sat in a few and did not appear to be cramped, but would like to know what long term ownership is like.

Not sure if anyone owns both a liquid cooled 911 and also an RS5, but who knows. would love to hear the comparison. There are several members on the 911 forums, but it is hard to get an idea from someone who moved from RS5 to 911 as everyone states there is no comparison to a 911.

    The joys of car shopping!

No difference at all after 2012 in terms of cosmetics. Being in the US, all models are effectively the same. I'm 6' 5" and the cabin in terms of head room is great, leg space might be a little narrow, but not too cramped front to back if that makes sense. Like I'm a wide guy being that tall, so my legs sprawl a little more, but definitely not uncomfortable. Road trips are fine, not as great as like a true GT car, but definitely equivalent to a 997s. I've driven a few 996's and would say the RS5 is just slightly more comfortable, but you are right that the driving experience is going to be different. V8+ AWD vs the excitement of a Rear-engine slidey manual machine.

I love my RS5 and wouldn't trade it in a heartbeat, except for a new RS3 for the 4 doors.

    Hopefully that helps!

2015's brought different wheels and they had a limited edition version with a special interior featuring red trim. Other than that, they're identical in every way.

I'm currently 6'2" but shrinking every year. A decade ago I was 6'3". Anyway, you'll fit just fine. The RS5 interior is more spacious. I've driven one 997 in anger and the steering feel is in a different league but the RS is more approachable and it's easier to go fast very quickly. It doesn't communicate in that fine, tuning fork kind of way, there's a bit of trust involved but it just hauls ass when driven correctly. The steering does have feedback. You can feel the road but you can't feel the tires loading. It's also power-on before hitting the apex so a bit different than driving a 997. And the sound...I always thought 911's sounded "ok" but the RS5 makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I only like the F355 and the Vantage S (with aftermarket exhaust) more.

The creature comforts are nice too and I'm sure it'll be a more modern, connected car than anything from 2006. But it ain't light. If you really like a light car, you might be disappointed. The RS5 hides it's weight well however.

Thanks for the information. Much appreciated! I look forward to a few test drives in the very near future.

I test drove six. Everyone here will tell you to be patient and find the right car with the options you're looking for. Right color too. I'd say try to find one with ceramic brakes. Most likely, it'll come with everything else and be fully optioned.

If you have a VIN number for a car you're looking at, you can copy/paste it in here and it'll give you the window sticker with all the options.

Same, I had 5 before coming to the right one. Fully optioned less the ceramic brakes (I wish though now with the dust)

It shouldn't be as VIN's are universal. However, the website sometimes does act up. One day it will work and others it won't. Try it again later, it should work, if not PM the vin and i'll screenshot in case it's something about your location.

Well it’s a U.S. lender providing the service and the window sticker is a Federal requirement for the States only. So I’m guessing it’s U.S. centric.

Ohh I see, that makes sense I thought "window sticker" was just the way that they organized the info from the main VIN service that I've seen on AudiWorld

I used to own a 996 turbo. I just moved to an RS5 2015. Big difference but both share the guarantee of joy delivery. Each has a specialty. I couldn’t keep the 996 along with my new RS5. If I had that chance, it would be a great pleasure switching between theses experiences.

Good luck in your search until you find your best fit ride. Enjoy it.
