What would you replace your B8 with. $50k budget.

I’m looking at SUVs (X5M mainly), always looking at S6 and S7, occasionally look at 911s.
I really need AWD and a back seat for kids and dogs in the mountains. Limits me.

What would you buy right now to fit your lifestyle and your car interests?

Isn’t that funny? Any non-car person in the world would say you’re nuts.

“Hey I sold my Audi sedan and bought a 911 and now I miss the power”

They would think you are exercising your legal rights in CO.

I will be replacing the S4 with an S5 Sportback next year. They should be popping up for sale for around that price or less on a CPO. I’ve considered the same cars as you but at the end of the day, I keep coming back to the S5 SB. With a mild drop and some nice wheels, it’s a damn sexy car, IMO.

Oh the porsche guys love it on rennlist when I tell them our 911 cars are slow and they put the engine in the wrong place, LOL. They love it even more when I joke that I bought the 911 to save money on owning a loaded up Camry since the 911 was only 37 grand lol.

Its a very different forum haha. They have 10 page threads about what is the definition of a true sports car and who can heel/toe the best.

We got my wife an SQ5 about 1 1/2 years ago. Really fun car. Almost as quick as my S4 and it's a real sleeper. You surprise a lot of people with it. I find I hardly miss my S4 when driving her car.

How about stretching the budget to 59K for a 2016 AWD FTypeR with a 100K mile warranty...

I've looked hard at the B8.5 SQ5.. I love them.. For some reason - I always think the change won't be "enough" since it's essentially my same car with a different body.. I actually don't mind the new body style for SQ5 (polarizing) and think the tech/interior differences would be "enough" but it will be another year before you could touch one for $50k.

If you are really set on an SUV, how about picking up a low(ish) mileage 2015-2016 3.0L Q5/SQ5 and adding ~$4k to your budget for dual pulley tune and upgraded heatexchanger... you can thank me later.

In my opinion X5M = too much $$$.

Agreed. A Regular X5 5.0 with a tune gets 95% of the way there.
Life has taught me never try to make something idiot proof, they'll simply come up with a better idiot.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.
I have neither the time, nor the crayons to explain this to you properly.

Definitely thought about it. It's a good option - my concerns with that are
    - is it different enough than my S4? inside it's the exact same car
    - is it actually big enough - still small backseat

    I'm definitely considering it.

that's a good option too.. if you don't want the brakes, suspension, interior bits, etc..

I think that's a good choice as well.

What would you replace your B8 with - $50k budget

Im looking at the Cadillac CTSV as my next car. Cannot beat the performance per $. And the looks / styling has come a long way.

Its been too expensive to get the S4 where I want it to be performance wise. Ive spent just as much as I would have on the Caddy, to get 140 less hp and tq than what comes stock on the corvette and CTSV. Im $84k into my S4 today, so I’ll sit on that and just enjoy the car for what Ive made it.

But next time I’ll just buy the car up front with the performance I want and only mess with things like wheels, intake, and exhaust (maybe). That wont void my warranty. Granted its been fun building a sleeper beast, but not worth the additional upgrades / repairs that follow.

Would keep the s4 and buy a suv of some sort if you really need a suv for 30k.

What id personally do for my lifestyle with 50K. Is keep my s4 and add a b7 rs4 or e46 m3 to add to stable. I don't have kids and have 2 dogs that travel with me a lot so that's all back seat is for. I also have a 7 car garage so storage for a 5th car is no problem.

had one of these as a loaner when I had warranty work and left saying "I could drive that"

Doesnt' really "solve" anything for me personally but a damn fine car! With a simple tune it could be fun.

I’ve been considering but haven’t pulled the trigger. The big boy is about 30k outside of 50k budget. However 505hp stock isn’t too shabby. IMG_0626.JPG

Another vote for SQ5. Been looking for sometime, hard to find a decent deal here. I love the fact that its the same car, same engine (EPL will transfer the tune if within 2yrs)

Also OP, i have seen a few panda interiors for sale in my area, they do exist. If thats what you mean by light silver interior.

    Really good advice.

I didn’t mean panda. I mean the silver/platinum style interiors you can order on other Audi lines

Now I'm thinking about what all would transfer off of my B8 and into an SQ5...

The only thing I think wouldn't transfer is my Bilstein Suspension.

Tune, roof racks, intake, CR-15 (right?), wheels (I'd sell them seperate but in theory they would)...

I'd lose out on transferring my suspension, CF rear diffuser and exhaust.. I'd 'probably leave front heat exchanger on..

Anyone know if the autotech HFPF is interchangeable between B8 (S4) and B8.5 (SQ5)?

Been reading up on the Q5 section, a bunch of previous S4 owners have completed the "Dad mod" aka SQ5. If you love the S4, then 95% of the car is the same for feel and driving. They do lack the sports diff (if you dont have that now, wont even notice). The weight and higher stance makes handling a little less sporty but its no sedan.

Ive looked at everything from new RX-350 Fsports to MDX to X5's. All pretty close in size, just cannot believe what X5 or X5M go for used, its insane still. Also my buddy who is a mechanic could not say one good thing about the X5M, complete garbage in terms of build quality. At 30K miles nearly every piece of plastic in the engine bay just snaps from the excessive heat. Nice while they are "new" but they do not age well.

Nice while they are "new" but they do not age well.
    agree to all.

Yeah, I did a quick search too and a used low mileage X5M is still more than what a new SQ5 would cost. I don’t dear run this thread past my BMW buddies as it’s “all is great” and “nothing is better” from them every time I talk to them. Glad to hear a different side of the story.

I couldn't believe used prices on RS7s the other day when I was randomly being curious. $60k - $70k for used RS7s with less than 30k miles. If it were me, I'd hold out for the right deal on one of them lol

When I was looking the MDX Hybrid Sport was at the top of my lists. Super quiet, nice interior, feature rich road like a car and around town the hybrid power from the rear wheels helped make fun. I was going to lease new so if you're open to buying used, that will open the options up a bit.

Have you come across the Atlas vs. Ascent post on VWVortex?

My boss has an RS7 and as bad as I want one - I couldn’t stomach pulling up to the office in the same car as the CEO. I work for a large company so he optics are just off. Yeah, yeah I know all the keyboard warriors will say fuck that do what you want, etc - but it’s how I feel.

    Love RS7. Don’t think I’m ready yet.

I sold my 15’ S4 and got a 16’ Volvo V60 Polestar for $7K less than what I sold the S4 . It has been a year now and I can say it was a good decision for me. Will probably get a B8 with manual for daily again at some point, but will keep the Polestar long term.
