How difficult to instal RS4 B7 6 rib belt kit from JHM

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I need some oil lines from JHM and been looking at getting the lightened pulleys and new 6 rib belt from JHM as I'm in the UK at the same time.

How difficult is it to fit ?

Can it be done without disconnecting the AC if I pull the clip to one side and support it ?

Should I change the front snub mount at the same time

    Thanks

I just did this.. here are a few tips..

Yes it can be done without removing the radiator and support (ie just put it in service mode) but it would be much easier with all of that out of the way. I left it.

The two small bolts that hold the small pulley onto the block were tricky.. one was totally seized up and I stripped its head trying to get it out. Be careful.

What slows you down on the main crank pulley is just access.. otherwise it’s fairly easy to remove. Follow torque pattern and instructions on JHM site to reinstall.

Getting the pulley off the alternator is fun part.. especially if you don’t have air tools. I bought air tools just to do this.. seemed like a good excuse. Obviously the pulley just spins so an impact gun is key. You also need one that is very small if you leave the radiator on. If you don’t have an air tool setup I’d recommend looking into removing the alternator.

Getting the tensioner off and getting every back together is fairly easy. The only other challenge is getting the new belt back on. I used a 2ft breaker bar on the tensioner and it was still a dog..

    Hope this helps.

*dont forget to use red locktight on the crank bolts!*

    Great thanks for your help.

What about an air ratchet type tool instead of a gun ? Would that spin quick enough.

Is the thread on the alternator opposite or is it still anticlockwise. How did you stop the engine from spin ing when tightening up the main pulley

Is it a worth while mod, I've had my car 10 years and not changed it
    Thanks again

I'm curious to hear your thoughts and impressions on this modification if you don't mind me asking?

I tried an air ratchet first! Didn’t have enough torque. Nut is standard thread direction.

There was enough resistance or I left the car in gear.. I forget.. but I didn’t have any issues torquing the crank pulley to spec.

I was running the standard light weight pulley from JHM prior to this and my belt came off under full load.. that’s why I upgraded. The engine revs very freely I haven’t had any issues with the belt coming off. So that’s nice.

Don't see the performance aspect, but it's a nice upgrade I suppose.

Ah ok yeah that's fair . It's 12 years old now so I should spend a bit if cash to keep it in good shape.

Is it worth doing the snub mount or front engine support while everything is off

On its own its not much.... small piece of the puzzle. If your belt needs replacing might as well!!!! If you have LW flywheel, rotors, wheels, and the rest of the power adders it helps the engine get really rev happy. Snub mount for sure!
