Thinking about selling my RS turbo powered S6. How much is it worth?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I'm contemplating selling my 2013 S6 Prestige and thought maybe the forum experts could chime in on where to price it? Here are the specs:

    2013 S6 Prestige with 83K miles
Options include LED headlights, 20" wheels and a few others which escape me at the moment.
RS turbos installed at 82K miles
    APR Stage 3 ECU/TCU
    APR heat exchanger
    APR downpipes

Bought the car stock in June of 2015 with around 77K so as you can see, I don't drive it much. Car is in excellent shape. Always garaged. Needs a new front bumper grille as the chrome trim is starting to lift up, probably from the Florida heat and humidity. Other than that the car is pretty mint.

Been to the strip a handful of times since the RS turbos were installed. Best pass was a 10.638 with it hitting the rev limiter on the 1-2 shift. With that fixed it'll run 10.4X as the erred shift is worth just about 1.5 to 2 tenths.

So what do you guys think it's worth? I was thinking maybe $35K?

Thanks, I really doubt I'll get $40K but I could start there. Lowest I'd probably take right now is $35K.

I just don't drive it much. I know it sounds strange but I enjoy driving my Golf Sportwagen more.

The S6 has actually been Stage 3 for a year and a half now but I've only put ~1,000 miles on it in that time.

That is a blasphemous statement and borderline insulting. Sell as fast as you can!

All joking aside, GLWS and curious to know if you are able to fetch any additional cash for stage 3 installed on the car... Keep us updated.

I would think with the right buyer, you ought to be able to get between $80K-$85k. I believe that would be a $15k-$20k depreciation hit on the car itself and just over half the value of the ~$25k in modifications. Obviously, the buyer would need to recognize and value the mods.

I just checked Manheim and 2017 S6s with low mileage are bringing only low $50's. On Autotrader they are going for mid to high $50's. That's some pretty crazy depreciation right there.

One reason may be the model year turnover. I was able to get offers of 73K for fullyloaded new S6 prestiges that MSRP'd at 83K. That being said, nefkyntym, I would trust all of your cars and work! I bought a Q5 BBK set from you when I had the B8 avant - and it was perfect. Although honestly, I think you should apply for dealership status given your loyalty to Audi and the # of vehicles you go through!

There's no way man. That car's MSRP was probably less than $85K (or very close), and was most likely purchased below that for sure. No way in hell it'd be worth that much now. Heck, not even my 2018 is worth anywhere close to that now. However, I also don't think it's worth high $50Ks either. The best strategy to sell these cars is to do it with no rush, so you can start asking top (but reasonable) dollar for it, and go down as needed until you get to the current market price. On the other hand, looks like the OP should get $35 for his car. Finally, to those of us who bought new, we're going to get creamed at resale time, unfortunately. And in my case, I'll lose way more than if I had kept my Porsche, since I already lost the brunt of the depreciation when trading in for the S6. And the S6 depreciates much more, so I'll have to get some Vaseline when I sell it. Ha ha.

Thanks!! It was toughing getting that set of Brembos at the time and then I jumped to an S3 before I could even get them close to the car. LOL, that isn't the first time I have heard comments about dealership status

I think what they meant was trying to take advantage of the fact my S6 is a newish stage 3 car and finding the right buyer.

I have a very similar build, just 2016 with 30k miles. I've been getting offers around the $45k-$48k area, just FYI. Dealer offered me about the same, so I'm going with that.

Just a FYI, don't know if you're aware or not but his car has about ~$25K in mods as per his signature:

    "RS7 Turbos | AMS Downpipes | Akrapovic Exhaust | AMS HX | Eventuri Intake | MRC Carbon Inlets | Eurocode Sways/Endlinks | APR Stage 3 ECU/TCU tune"

Just how much those mods add to a private party sale is what's being discussed...

There worth whatever a buyer will pay technically there worth "nothing". a dealer doesn't care so either he sells to a dealer gets tax credit, or sells it for a "little more" to private party to get his tax credit amount or close.

While always less convenient - those mods would likely be better sold individually for max value

I would never consider trading it to a dealer unless I took everything off and went back to stock. I was offered a trade last week when I was getting my SQ5, that is what they thought I wanted to trade. I traded my B9 Allroad.

Depends. With mods like the Akrapovic, I tend to agree with you. However, the cost of labor to remove the RS7 turbos and reinstall the stock turbos would likely negate a large chunk of what used RS7 turbos would sell for on the open market. The other issue is then the APR Stage 3 ECU and TCU software effectively becomes worthless since there's no way to sell that privately. So that's $3,250 down the drain. So in this case, I think he'd be better off keeping the Stage 3 turbos and software on the car.

I think he'd net the most money if he sold all the mods except for the turbos and stage 3 software. Mods like the AMS HX, AMS Downpipes, Eventuri intake, MRC inlets, etc. will typically bring 55-75% of what they go for new as those parts seem to be in high demand.

elptxjc, I may be somewhat optimistic, but he also has over $30k of mods on the car with likely a few hundred man-hours of installation work he did all himself. The right buyer that would appreciate walking into a mint car modded to perfection like that may be willing to pay a premium.

I personally think nefntym would be crazy to sell it, as most folks would want to low-ball the heck out of him, but to each his own.

I had a 2010 camaro with over 40k instead the fuel system alone was 5k with install. It was a show car known around the car show scene I won tons of awards every year at every show car was done right. But when it came time to sell I couldn't get over 5k of kbb. So i traded it in to the dealer to get a tax break.

Sounds like an awesome car! Would have loved to have seen it. I get it- mods aren't worth anything to most folks, and every potential buyer will low-ball the hell out of everything, even of they appreciate the mods- which is why I hope nefkyntm doesn't sell his.

The lure of another build is tempting.

The lure of another build in something smaller is still tempting. Not closing my mind to this idea.

I have manheim access I was looking to sell my car 2018 prestige with 92k Msrp. And it’s insulting what they bring with 4K miles if I could have found a used one loaded I would have saved enough to buy a b8 s4 with the difference ! Your car is amazing I would keep it 😎
