    I'm Very Fortunate....New (to me) RS7

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I'm an older guy (but not too old!) who has had some nice cars in the past (E39 M5, E92 M3) but hasn't had a really nice one in some years. A year ago I bought an M235i thinking that would satisfy me, but although it is a great car and value for the $$, maybe the best that bmw makes on that score, my wife hated it and I never warmed to it...must be age. So my son has always loved the RS7 so I started looking into them...and lo and behold a couple months later a really nice one popped up for sale locally. Long story short, I drove it home today. While I think it was a reasonable deal considering how expensive these cars are, it is still the most I've spent on a car in my life. So my fantastic wife also deserves credit for not standing in my way, although she's not a car person.

The car is a pretty well equipped 2015. I know the thread is useless without pics, but I won't have any up until tomorrow after I give her (him, not sure of the sex yet) a bath. I drove it about 100 miles home today, and I think we are really going to like what may be my last ICE car....Extremely comfortable (comfort seats), smooth as heck on the road, great safety and tech features, but a bit of a beast when you get on it. I have a warranty for another 4 years so I don't have to worry about much other than tires and brakes...Speaking of which, the car has aftermarket 21's on it...but I think the only 'mod' I may do is to downgrade to 20 inch wheels so I can put all season performance tires on it. The car will find it's way into the mountains often, and while I would never consider this a snow car, I'd like to be able to be up there and not have to worry about a small amount of winter weather with 21 inch summer tires.

Anyway, any tricks/suggestions would be appreciated. I have a lot of reading to do to familiarize myself with all the features the car has.

So far I'd say it's pretty spectacular. I'm lucky to be able to own it, even used.

    Pics to be added tomorrow.

Welcome! I feel like we are in a somewhat similar situation. Fast forward a year and I have already modified the beast with a small mortgage!! Check my build thread and others on some options and experience on mods. One nice thing about the RS7 is with only a few mods it is even more amazing than stock. I would really look at sway bars, ECU tune and VCDS as some initial mods.

First thing I'm thinking of doing is sort of the opposite. I'd love to find someone who either just bought an S7/RS7 with stock 20's or who has had it a while and wants to go to 21's. Mine look great on the car, but as I said, I'd like to have all season rubber on it..I'll just get more use out of the car that way.

The first thing I did was put the APR tune on it, but the second thing I did was took off the 21s and put on 20s so I could have the extra rubber. The roads around where I live aren’t the best, so the extra rubber helps with that to some extent. I’d recommend Continental DWS06 if you’re looking for a great all-season tire. That tire is rated for snow.

If you go to the forum section here, there is a wheel section in the for sale area and it is broken down by wheel size. You will see 20" wheels for sale there maybe a little more often then this specific sub-forum for sale area. Sometimes need to watch both or post a Wanted or For Trade post.

Thanks, I was planning on posting there. Lots of yummy choices, but I think I like the oem 20's pretty well. I know the conti dws tires well, we had them on a couple of other cars we have owned.

Now that you have upgraded the car, it's time for a new carbon S-Works mountain bike. Your '07 must have 26" wheels. Time for a 21lb 29er to tackle the San Fran trails.

Yes. The cpo is what turned it for me so I don't have to worry about big things going wrong on the car for years, plus I prefer the comfort seats to the sport seats that most of these cars have. My daughter loves the wheels, she won't be happy if I downgrade to 20's...I think it was pretty reasonably priced relative to anything else I had seen. Thought about an S7 as well, but the price difference really wasn't very much.

Was in same situation, just purchased a '15 RS7...and also didn't mind the 21's that came on the car, but got tired of switching summer/winter, etc., and since it won't be tracked, went with BBS 20's. Still look great, more tire, and softer ride. Mops hooked me up with a great deal on 20's that look great.

Congrats on the RS7! I'd opt for a set of winter wheels and tires separate from the summer set so you can enjoy the performance in both climates. This platform handles snow VERY VERY well. Might want to reconsider leaving the RS in the garage during the winter months. It's super stable and can be fun in the snow.

Ok, gave her/him a bath this morning. I find that's the best way to really see how the cosmetic condition of the car really is, up close and personal. Car looks superb, and the one wheel with rash really doesn't look bad at all (passenger front of course). I am still going to look to find a swapper down to 20's though. Those bbs wheels look great by the way. Not likely I'll go to a winter setup, I like the idea of having one set that I can drive in all conditions. For heavier weather we have a BMW X3, so going down to 20 inchers with all season performance tires would be more out of convenience of not having to swap and not worrying if I get caught up in the mtns with the RS7.

Anyway, here are a few pics from this morning. While I'm a pretty serious photographer, I'm not much of a car photographer but I think you will get the idea. Interior shots taken before I cleaned up the seats a bit. The car is heading up to the mtns tonight, should be fun. From my first drive I love the adaptive cruise, that makes a big difference imo.

Congrats on the purchase! I have loved every bit of my 15 as well. Probably my favorite all around car I've owned - and I've been fortunate enough to have some good ones. You'll have no regrets.

Congrats. I was looking at that car too and was almost ready to fly to LA to get it, but the tan interior and comfort seats kept me from jumping on a plane. Ended up finding another 14 Ibis White RS7 with the sport interior, but no CPO :( Did you confirm that the CPO was transferable? I recall the seller bringing the car from Texas and having to do something where it listed him as the third owner instead of the second. I think there is paperwork and a fee to transfer the CPO.

    Congrats!

I've come from SRT8's, and a CTSV second gen. The Audi RS7 is absolutely in a different league all around. That's not to take away from those other cars. The MSRP of the Audi is also in a different league. I was fortunately to find a really really good deal when I wasn't looking.

The RS7 is absurd in how fast it is. I literally gave myself an adrenaline dump the first time I floored it on an onramp. The amount of sheer instant grunt is unexpected and insane for a car that is just fine pudding along to work most of the time as well.......Like the V they are still kind of a sleeper, and will ruin the day of pretty much 99% of anything on the road.
