Question on door open sensor issues

    This is a 2003 B6 A4 Quattro Avant.

What is happening is that the rear passenger footwell light and door warning light (red light on door jamb to warn other people door is opening) are not always coming on. I can get them to come on by pulling the door opener handle a little harder than normal to the "full open" position.

The confusing part to me is that the display in the instrument cluster reliably indicates whether the door is open or closed. I also don't have any problems with the alarm setting.

It appears that something is goofed up in the door latch mechanism which controls the footwell light and door jamb light. I read about the microswitch failures, but in my case the cluster seems to always know when the door is open or closed.

Any ideas? Could the door sensor microswitch have failed, even though it still seems to be indicating the correct door position to the car's computer?

Just to clarify, this is only happening on for the rear passenger light/door.

Try spraying a little WD 40 into the door latch it may need a little lubrication.

I have the same issue, except I don't even get a message/icon on the cluster. Which I'm pretty sure means it's a wiring issue.

Every now and then I get the light but the car is usually off so I don't know if anything shows up on the dash.

WD40 smells bad, so I sprayed electronics cleaner in there. Now the lights never come on, no matter how I jiggle the interior door handle. The instrument cluster still indicates the door position just fine.
