    675 Miles till empty....?

    Hey Ya’ll,

    Curious if anyone can solve this riddle. My car was in a hit & run which hurt something to where none of the keyless features worked. The CCM (comfort/convenience control module) had to be replaced which means I lost all the vag-com settings. I did the usual coding in the dashboard/instrument cluster module like seatbelt warning off, needle sweep, efficiency mode, lap timer. After I coded it all my usual 405 til empty jumped to 675 on fill up and I can’t seem to get it back.... any coders out there have any ideas?

    I was at 378 miles on the tank and ran out of gas in the middle of the road. Car said I still had 270 miles till empty.....

    So it's still showing you have fuel left even though you're empty?

    Sounds like the fuel sender is out of whack.

    But when did you swap to that A/S5 cluster? And how did you complete the swap?

    Did you preserve your original DIS and simply use the 5's outside cluster?
    Or, did you swap the whole instrument cluster?

    I seem to recall the gas and temp gauges on the 5 clusters being a tad smaller, but I'm not certain that would have this large of an impact on your reading.

    I did the A5 gauge swap months beFour this issue ever happened and everything was fine. It’s definitely a coding issue that I can’t seem to undo

    If you still have your old gauge cluster, I'd try to swap back and verify 100% that the S5 cluster isn't the culprit. Also you said that this happened after you changed out the CECM, I'd assume that is the issue if it was working fine before you did that.
    Ross Tech's forum is a lot better at diagnosing VCDS issues TBH, I'd post up your issue there with a full scan and the parts you changed out.
    Also IDK if I am the minority, but I never rely on the "Miles Left" number (plus I fill up at 1/4 tank left). As long as your actual gas gauge works, that's the main thing IMO.

    never had any issues with the "miles left" counter. it's a blend of program 2, program 1, and your actual analog gauge.

    I do have the old gauge cluster, not sure I’m ready to go through all that work just yet. It happened after coding in the instrument module because of a new CCM. I don’t rely on the numbers either and fill up at 300 miles to the tank, obviously I think we would all like to have everything on our cars working properly; but that’s only a dream for most

    This isnt just a miles to empty issue correct? If I'm reading this correctly your actual fuel gauge is reading you have fuel when you dont right?

    Correct. The gauge isn’t a big concern as it’s always been slightly off since the cluster swap but I always knew how much I had til empty; but now I don’t even have that

    Throw your old gauge in and photo all coding and adaptation values. If your guage has always been off since the swap theres you answer. You may have messed it up more but youve had this issue since the swap. Could even be you fuel sender is not recognized correctly by the other gauge.

    I agree with what you’re saying but it makes no sense that this has all been fine until re-coding the instrument module. There is no “throwing” the old gauge in. It’s a lot of work for something I don’t think will fix it. This is a coding issue

    It hadnt been fine. You said the fuel gauge has been off since the swap.

    Did you put all the coding back to stock for instruments?

    Barely off because an A5 gauge is different from an A4 in terms of needle angle. I apologize, it was how it should be if it was an A5.

    When the CCM was replaced every vag com setting was returned to stock as it was a new, uncoded CCM

    Would it be helpful for someone with a 2010 a4 prestige to take photos of their long coding for instruments, comfort, modules?

    To let everyone know what happened. Going through another’s coding I found our cars are suppose to read “All Wheel Drive with a 64l tank” and mine got taken off that setting somehow. I appreciate everyone’s help here
