Fuel Tank Disassembly - Special Tool Needed?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello Everyone,

I had a quick question as I was trying to replace the fuel tank seal on the passenger side of my B6 A4. Using the image below as a reference:

    Question:
Is there a special tool needed to pop off the "Fuel Supply Line" connector in the image above? Mr. Matt Devo and I tried a few screwdrivers and tried to gently wiggle the connector off, but it wouldn't budge. So, I wanted to post and ask if there is a special tool needed to disconnect this connector?

Thanks in advance for everyone's time and help, it is greatly appreciated!! =)

    Thanks,
    Asif

Push down hard on the connector and squeeze the tabs on the side of the connector. Rotate the connector a little while pushing down. Continue squeezing and pull up on the connector. It should pop right off.

squeezing the tabs had no effect, seems like whoever removed it last made a bit of a mess of things as the tabs look manhandled and the fuel pump connector release was broken. The one on the driver side released w/o issue

Anyone else have any tips or ideas on how to get the Fuel Supply Line off? This is still an issue with me getting a slight fuel (gas) smell with a full tank unfortunately.

    Thanks in advance!

You can see a knotch where the button can be pushed in. Using a pair of needle nose pliers you can squeeze it very gently (it is plastic) and wiggle the line as you pull with a clockwise, counter clockwise motion. Should come off with little to no effort. I have taken many lines off no issues.

I think my fuel supply line was somewhat chewed up (damaged) from a previous repair. The last owner had the fuel-pump replaced, and I'm assuming something happened when this repair was done to damage the connector.

If the pliers are not an option, would something like this be a good tool to help get the connector off:

    Nice find on the tool!

It should certainly help. For the price, I'm ordering one right now. Looks like a great addition to my tool box.

Def. That tool is made for the push lock style fuel connectors. Hopefully it is not damaged to the point the button cannnot be pushed in, then your replacing the fuel line and the top hat. Wish you luck!
