Methanol Kits? What kit are people using?

I have used AEM and Aquamist on other cars but wanting to added it to my RS7. What kits are people using and are what are you using to trigger the kit MAF, boost, IDC or...?

I am also curious to this. I have used them in the past on turbo cars but have not seen much discussion on here on any of the 4.0TT cars running it.

**Edit** Last kit I used was a coolingmist system in the FD.

Also, very gorgeous car. Love the blue with bronze wheels.

I have AEM activated by boost on my 13 S8. Aquamist is great too. I just couldn't wait for it, availability wise. AEM is 2 days from many places.

The 4.0T doesn't seem to respond to methanol injection like on other platforms. The guys who have ran it seem to have lost power. The 4.0T is a very strange engine.

That’s seems very odd, I wonder if they had it clicked on too early or too much and it made the AFR too rich. I have never seen a FI car not respond to Methanol

Yeah well these engines are odd. Would be interesting for somebody to do a back to back dyno pull. I bet it loses decent power.

Sounds to me like to tune would be to blame. if you just add meth injection to a car with out tuning for it the car will be cooler but it wont yield any performance gains. however, when tuned for meth injection it will gain power due to the ability to advance timing, higher boost and lower IAT's and help with pre ignition.

Exactly. Unless you incorporate the Meth injection into the tune you won't see any power gains and depending on the mixture of water to methanol you very well could lose power. Seems as if it is difficult on these platforms to get a custom tune (at least in my limited research so far). Also would be recommended to have a selectable tune so that if you run out of available methanol or forget to fill the tank regularly you can switch it to a gas only tune.

Reason I used it on the FD was mainly for deterring knock and cooling intake temps quickly. I live in FL and sitting in traffic even for the least bit causes a rise in under hood temps thus increasing intake temps. The 30% methanol 70% water mix I ran did a great job of dropping temps back down quickly and helping deter any negative things happening to the motor should I get my foot back into it quickly. If you know anything about the rotary engine you know it will take as much boost as you can throw at it, but if it knocks in the least bit.....its done. The higher percent water I ran there along with the octane boost of the methanol helped deter any pre-detonations. I lost around 30hp when I added the methanol injection (I did not want to tune to it and it was added as a safety net, not power booster), but the remaining 500whp on low boost in a 2600lb car was more than enough...

Looks like Methanol helped, like I thought. Is the blue 50/50 meth on 91 or with 104?

Very impressive gains on the 93 file. Does he have any plans to try it on the 100oct file?

This is great news. I’m considering doing the Forge larger heat exchanger (68F drop) and Methanol. Would you happen to know where the two meth nozzles where mounted?

Its said to also help with carbon build up associated with direct injection like we have. Would love to find a kit / tune for our rs7's.

I half installed my AEM kit because I read a few posts on here and people said it was loosing power, but my faith has been restored. Is it safe to assume you installed your nozzles right after the air-water inter cooler ?

Nozzle placement's have varied- the example I gave has the nozzles in the turbo outlet (which is not ideal but there really are so few options due to space). We do however have a few systems in the works that are working on placement - will reply as results are determined.

Sorry I should have been more specific. I was referring to that dyno sheet that you posted. Nozzle placement was in the turbo outlets. I figured you meant it was right where the rubber hose connectors attach the turbo to the throttle body for some reason. Post turbo, pre-I tercooler.

that's not the exact car but it's the same installer so it's similar- below you see the boost tap for the meth controller.

These guys have done something on this topic.

My RS6 with APR downpipes and a custom tune from e-tuners in Sydney produced 422WKW. I'd say that adding the water meth gives another 30WKW on top of downpipes and tune, possibly a bit more if they really pushed the boost and timing of the tune.

Their test doesn’t isolate a gain from meth unfortunately.

I'm interested in this as well, purely for cooler temps. I'm already running the 100 tune from APR since the gas station down the street has it on the pump. These summer months in Vegas are brutal. While I wouldn't mind the additional power gains, I don't think APR has a tune for it?

If you're just looking to cool your charge you could just do a setup using small jets and spraying just water. You probably wouldn't need to adjust your tune at all. The reduced IAT's would prevent power loss on those hot summer days.

+3 for Aquamist. Gauge matches factory cluster. Owner fabricated mount, emphasis on being visible while at WOT and being removable for dealer service.
