    PPF vs ceramic coat on a new fresh coat of paint

    Hey guys -

    Wondering if anyone can chime in here.

    Is it kosher to put xpel or any PPF on a freshly aftermarket painted car(obviously properly cured etc)? I spoke to a reputable installer and he actually said it might be best to not do that because it's aftermarket paint (no matter who does the paint job) if and when I try and remove the film later down the line or there is no 100% guarantee how the film reacts to the paint since its not factory. They recommended going ceramic coat however I put a decent amount of highway miles on my car a day so I wanted to protect against the harsher elements (rock chips/debris). Any suggestions or input here?

    Im no expert but why should it matter if it is factory or after if done right and cured? Ipart of doing either is proper paint correction anyway which included painting as needed.

    Check the build date of your car. Most likely it's over 30 days old so you'll be fine. PPF and Ceramic are two totally different products. Ceramic coatings do nothing to prevent chips or sandblasting.

    Your installer gave you some good advise.
    What he’s basically telling you is that there’s no consistency in the way cars are painted these days. Too many ways of prepping the paint will always affect the output
    His concern is if you’re going to put a film protection in, that when it comes down to remove it, it could bring your new paint with it. I’ve removed clearbra and I can tell you it’s a biatch and strong to remove, no match for aftermarket paint in my opinion.
    I do share your installers opinion.
    Go with a good 9H rated ceramic coating. Get a couple good coats and you should be fine.
    Ceramic coatings will resist rock chips to a certain degrees, and light road sandblasting.
    Even clear bra can be penetrated by a rock chip, I think we’ve all seen that.
    Ceramic coating it’s NOT rock chip proof, but a good quality ceramic coating will help in resisting most of them.
    I have C-quartz on my audi, and I live in Colorado and we do lay down sand on the roads after and during snowstorms.
    I can tell you I’m yet to see any rock chips on the front of my car caused by smaller rocks.

    Yeah my installer is legit and has been doing this for many many years. Basically the variability of painting aftermarket (even if its close to the factory process) said it wasn't worth the money I'd be paying to get the clear bra on. Save my money and spend it elsewhere (Ceramic).

    This is largely true and I've dealt with both sides. We have had clients vehicles that have been repainted and ceramic applied to the panel then clear bra in the future. It holds up well and allows the ppf to be removed with much less effort than a traditional application.
