Wet rear seatbelt?... is it the sunroof drain?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Wife sat in back passenger side yesterday, and she said the seat belt was wet. Is this because the sunroof drains are clogged?...I’m assuming it’s the rear drains? How do I get to these to clear them. Thanks in advance.

Yep sunroof drains. I have yet to find a really good DIY on cleaning them. And it’s always the back right seatbelt 😕

It's actually pretty straight forward. I think I was able to google a thread between Audizine and other VW/Audi forums that had a decent pictures (may be broken by now). Buy some string trimmer line and go fishing!

The fronts drain to the front door jams, the rears drain to rear wheel wells behind the liner. The hardest part is pulling back the headliner enough to check out if there's leaks at the rear of the sunroof drain overflow tank (right above the C pillar). While you're in there, I would add some self-fusing silicone tape up there so you know that tube isn't leaking. Mine was leaking even though it wasn't clogged.

I had to do this a couple weeks ago. I took off the rear dome light and then the long piece of headliner trim across the top of the windshield. I also took off both rear ceiling handles.

There are some good pictures here that show the headliner trim and C pillar that you'll need to take off

Once you take all of that off, you can wiggle the headliner down a little to access the sunroof drains but be careful because you don't wanna bend/crease the headliner.

Not my picture but this is where mine was leaking. The drain tube wasn't attached to the drain plug/port on the sunroof.

Mine was leaking a few weeks back, I peeled the wheel well cover off on both sides (had to remove the rear wheels, annoyingly). I just shoved a length of weed whacker line up the hose until it wouldn't go any farther. I don't think the drain was clogged though, I think the nipple was just stuck shut after however many years of draining rainwater and whatnot. When I squeezed it a couple ounces of water came out each side so I figure it was a good thing I caught it before the ceiling got too soaked.

Just do that, and most likely you'll be fine. If it keeps leaking then consider ripping the interior apart.

Thanks...this is what I am going to do first. Saw some videos about this and hope this works. If not, it’s pulling liners time.

Ditto on just burping the fitting in the rear wheel well. This worked for me.
