Thumbs up S7 Resonator and "Suitcase" delete

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey everyone, I recently had my local muffler shop cut off my front resonators and suitcase. WOW what a difference!

For someone considering this to "wake up" your S6/S7, there is no question. Cut those things out!

My end goal is to go with a full turbo back exhaust (Milltek or AWE) but wanted to try this first since it is a 10th of the price. This should keep me happy for another year when I can justify spending a couple thousand on an exhaust.

Let me know if you have any questions

A few of us have done this, did you read up on it before doing it?

From your pictures, you have not inserted a crossover when you removed the centre suitcase.

This may cause you significant problems, and l recommend you put in an x-pipe crossover section in that centre section.

Agree with above. I think it has to do with 4cyl mode though so maybe you could just have cod turned off via vcds.
Btw these cars reallllly wake up after you get rid of the stock mufflers. (I did X pipe in place of suitcase, then added oem sport mufflers bought from someone on here, then finally added the ams downpipes). I put videos up on youtube btw

Can't disable COD via VCDS, FYI. It'd be nice if that was true (I asked many times and only a tune can do that). I tried getting rid of COD by disabling T/C before and after turning engine on, using dynamic mode, and basically all other possible settings, and COD always comes on, even at exorbitant speeds, to my surprise. Oh well. By the way, will look for a shop to get rid of just the 'suitcase', so there's absolutely no more cabin noise on trips. Should be enough to raise the outside volume what I want.

I did do some research before hand but didn’t read anywhere that it would cause problems.

What kind of significant problems would this cause? How would an x-pipe mitigate those problems?

I thought the x-pipe was purely for sound preferences

    Thanks everyone for input!

Sounds good! i don't think you will have any problems going straight vs. x-pipe. Perhaps RAF_S7 was confusing this with the newer Sport Exhaust rear mufflers where the driver side exhaust valve is located at the pipe before the muffler. That's when you'd need some type of cross over in the middle for when that valve completely closes off that rear muffler. In your case, gases will always escape out of both mufflers, regardless of valve being open or closed.
    Enjoy!

The suitcase that you deleted is actually a crossover chamber, and when COD (Cylinder on Demand) or certain Drive settings are active, the valves at the exhaust tips close. Without a crossover, and with the valves closed, you can cause too much back pressure, which, without a crossover, has no where to go and can cause problems with pressure build up. You may also get cabin drone.

There are two crossover options. An H-pipe, or an X-pipe. The x-pipe is more efficient, so most opt for that. There is quite a bit of debate in the forum, which you can find using the search feature

[Edit: just seen the above post, yes this may be for the C7.5 model - I have the facelift, so assumed the crossover was required....]

Local shop did it for $100. I knew the guy so he cut the price a little bit.

Support your local muffler shops :D

You need some kind of crossover on a V8 for proper cylinder scavenging. It's there for a reason.
