what is the point of Wifi Hostspot in this car?

My car have no sim slot. I am using a 3G Dongle to get the Google Earth etc. But the Wifi hotspot is not taking the internet connection. So what is the point of it?

    Audi A6 2012.

Don't know how things are setup in Abu Dhabi. Sounds like it's different than everywhere else. The point of the Wifi hotspot is that passengers can connect to it to get Internet access. That's how it works here. You can also use it to stream music to the MMI from a network player, such as the MMI connect app on an iPhone or Android phone. Not sure what your 3G Dongle is about. We have SIM cards in our cars here in the United States and the car has a built in cellular modem to provide Internet access, so the system acts as a mobile broadband router.

I know what a wifi hotspot is. But i dont know why Audi decided to provide a Wifi hotspot when there is no sim card slot for GCC specs.
To stream music, i can use the car bluetooth, so dont know why again.

I used 3G dongle since there is no sim slot. It works perfectly to load Google earth, voice search etc. But MMI is not routing the internet connection to the Wifi hotspot.

Push the open button and it will expose the slot for memory cards and SIM card.

Perhaps they don’t have GSM networks there and still use CDMA!

Streaming music via Wifi is much better quality than over Bluetooth. Also the MMI connect app has the ability to remember where you parked your car. That requires a Wifi connection to the car, but it does look like the system is restricted where you are. Is this 3G dongle something Audi offers or is this a third-party solution? What cellular technology is in use where you are? The MMI only supports GSM out of the box.

Quality over wifi would be better but over bluetooth its not bad at all.

Its a 3rd party Huawei dongle. Not supplied by Audi.

Regarding the network, UAE/Dubai uses one of the best networks. Apparently UAE will be one of the first countries to deploy 5G.

But when it comes to cars, they are just lazy.

4G+ is most common here. obviously the car and dongle only support 3G.

But the restriction happens from MMI to the car hotspot, which i dont understand.

Also my Audi Connect language is German, i also need help to change it to English.

So what exactly is this dongle? Is this a mobile hotspot itself? How is it connected your MMI? Via Bluetooth PAN or WiFi tethering or some other way?

What do you mean your Audi connect language is German? Is your entire MMI in German or only the connect screens? There is no language setting for Audi connect. It's supposed to use the language setting of the MMI.

The WiFi on my car has awesome range, and it's super fast. I won't renew it, but works well. However, somebody said audio quality is better than Bluetooth. How the heck can you play, for instance, Spotify over WiFi? I thought it's only thru Bluetooth or Apple CarPlay, which I don't like. So use BT, which sounds pretty good, I think.

Its a mobile hotspot + Router, Like a 3G Wireless Access Point (Huawei E5151). The Connection goes like this:

SIM Inside Dongle > Ethernet to USB Cable > USB to AMI Cable > Connected to AMI Port under the Arm Rest.
There is a Separate USB Cable connected to the dongle for charging.

My MMI Has only 2 languages. English and Arabic. Currently English, but just the Audi Connect is German. Strange Huh. I think it is connecting German Servers.

Connect your phone to the car hotspot, and the phone acts as a server. I think can play spotify offline tracks thru Car wifi.

I see. That's a non-standard hack setup then. There are some hobbyists on this forum I believe that have put together a similar contraption and have figured out the coding to make it work at least for Audi connect, but perhaps not the hotspot. I'm guessing that being a hack it's also why it connects to the German Audi connect. I just looked around on the Audi Abu Dhabi website and it looks like Audi connect is not officially offered where you are, so there is no Arabic Audi connect. That's not unusual. Audi connect is not offered in every country. That probably explains why it falls back to the German version. It can't find Audi connect for your country.

It works like on my home WiFi: Sound comes thru the phone's speakers. Only BT routes it to the car. Or I'm sure Apple CarPlay, but don't like it, especially without touchscreen. BT sounds very good though, so no issues. But have to use it offline when traveling due to poor reception. With the car's WiFi, would be able to use it online a lot longer, hence my asking.
